ABSTRAK
Kertas karya ini berjudul The Description Of Theme In Cassandra
Clare’s Second Novel The Mortal Instrument: City Of Ashes. Pada
penulisan kertas karya ini, penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif,
dimana penulis menggunakan buku sebagai sumber informasi dan
juga internet sebagai sumber analisis tema yang di deskripsikan pada
novel. Penulis membaca seluruh isi novel dan mengambil kesimpulan
kemudian menetukan tema utama dari cerita yang ada pada novel.
Pembagian tema pada umumnya ada dua jenis, yaitu tema mayor dan
tema minor, namun penulis hanya fokus pada tema mayor karena tema
mayor pada novel sangat terlihat dari awal, tengah sampai akhir cerita.
Tema yang ada dalam novel ini adalah tema keluarga, identitas dan
Supranatural. Penulis asli novel tersebut sangat jelas menerangkan
tentang kehidupan tokoh utama yang masih berjuang untuk
membuktikan siapa keluarganya, siapa identitasnya dan kekuatan yang
tokoh tersebut miliki.

ABSTRACT
The paper, entitled The Description Of Theme In Cassandra Clare's
Second Novel The Mortal Instrument: City Of Ashes. In writing this
paper, the Writer used qualitative methods, where the Writer use the
book as a source of information and also the Internet as a source of
analysis of themes that are described in the novel. The Writer read the
entire contents of the novel and took conclusions and then determined
the main theme of the story that is in the novel. The division of themes
in general there are two types, namely major themes and minor
themes, but the Writer only focused on the Major Theme because the
major theme on the novel is very visible from the beginning, middle to
the end of the story. The themes in this novel are, the theme of family,
identity and supranatural. The original author of the novel is clearly
tells about the life of the main character who is still struggling to
prove who is her family, her identity and the strength that the
character has.
