THE USAGE OF HERBAL PRODUCTS AS TOOTH WHITENING AGENT IN DENTISTRY.
The Usage of Herbal Products as Tooth Whitening Agent in Dentistry –

ABSTRACT
Every human’s dream is to own a set of perfect beautiful white teeth. Due
to unhealthy habits, the teeth get stained or better known as discolored. Most
commonly used substances for bleaching nowadays are from chemical products
such as hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide.
Therefore, the main purpose of the literature review is to find herbal
products which can be used as tooth whitening agent. During the study, it has
been found out that there are five products which can whiten the tooth. They are
strawberry which is divided into two, the fruit or leaves, batang glagah, Babul
(Acacia arabica), holy basil and orange peel.
Research have been done and clinically proven for strawberry, both the
fruit and leaves and for batang glagah too. On the other hand, babul (Acacia
arabica), holy basil (Ocimum sanctum) and orange peel have been used as tooth
whitening agent empirically.
Based on this literature review, we can conclude that herbal products can
be used as tooth whitening agent. And more research needs to be done to develop
these products in the field of dentistry.
