Handling Most of Second-Grade Students Class B Who Lacked of Vocabulary at SD 1 Angkasa Bandung.

ABSTRACT
Tugas Akhir ini berisi pembahasan masalah yang saya hadapi selama
magang pada bulan Januari 2015 sebagai asisten guru yang mengajar di SD
1 Angkasa Bandung. Dalam penelitian ini, saya membahas masalah dalam
menangani anak-anak kelas dua yang sulit memahami kosa kata di kelas
mata pelajaran inggris yang saya ajarkan.
Berdasarkan hasil analisi dari anak-anak sulit mengikuti pelajaran kosa
kata adalah karena saya kurang berpengalam dalam mengajar, saya juga
tidak menggunakan tehnik mengajar yang benar, selain itu sebagian dari
anak-anak sangat kurang menyukai membaca English texts di kelas saya
ataupun di rumah mereka.
Oleh karena itu dampak dari anak-anak sulit mengikuti pelajaran kosa
kata ini adalah anak-anak menjadi sulit untuk berkomunikasi dalam bahasa
inggris didalam kelas, setelah itu sebagian anak-anak menjadi sulit mengikuti
pelajaran bahasa Inggris dan juga anak-anak mendapatkan nilain yang tidak
baik di bidang mata pelajaran Inggris.
Untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini, saya memiliki tiga solusi yang dapat
diterapkan dan sangat membantu saya. Pertama, saya akan mengajar
dengan menggunakan permainan dalam kelas agar murid-murid akan lebih
tertarik dengan materi yang saya ajarkan. Kedua, saya akan mencoba
mereka untuk ikut berpatisipasi dengan mengikuti pelatihan untuk guru yang

baru saja memulai pengajaran agar saya dapat lebih percaya diri di dalam
kelas, dan solusi terakhir saya akan meminta anak-anak untuk lebih sering
membaca English texts di dalam kelas.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the Study
The topic of this term paper is based on my internship from
January 12, 2015 until February 18, 2015 as a teacher assistant at
SD 1 Angkasa Bandung. My job is teaching Vocabulary. I help the
students to build their vocabulary to make them able to
communicate with others in English. Based on an article
“Vocabulary and Its Importance in Language Learning” it is said that
“Teaching vocabulary helps students understand and communicate
with others in English.” (par. 2). It is clear teaching vocabulary is
important as it will enable the students to acquire new words they
need for communication.
When I had my internship, I found a problem. My problem is
handling most of second-grade students class B who lacked of
vocabulary. There were thirty students in the class. Most of the

The students were 7-8 years old. They began to learn English
formally when they were in the second grade, thus it was hard for them to
follow the lessons. For example, during English lessons they were asked
to speak English in the class. Because the students lacked of vocabulary,
The students did not know what to say in English. In the end, they only
kept silent. This situation happened several times during my internship.
Based on the above explanation, I would like to discuss about
handling most of second-grade students class B who lacked of vocabulary.
Based on an article “How to Teach Vocabulary Effectively” it is said” “
without a good knowledge of vocabulary, it is extremely difficulty to
communicate” (12). It is clear that to communicate effectively ,the students
needto know a large number of words and their meanings. I choose this
topic since I am interested in helping the students who lacked of
vocabulary. This term paper will analyze the causes, the effects, and the
solutions to solve my problem.

B. Identification of the Problem

C. Objectives and Benefits of the study
The objectives of my term-paper are to find the causes of my
problem in handling students who lacked of vocabulary and to describe
the effects of the problem. I would also like to find the best and the most
effective solution to solve the problem.
The benefit of my term-paper for teachers at SD 1 Angkasa
Bandung is to help them find effective ways to teach English especially
teaching vocabulary. The teachers can use fun ways to teach vocabulary
so that the students can easier to memorize the words. The second

benefit is for the readers to know good ways to learn vocabulary and
improve their English. The last benefit is for me to learn various ways to
teach vocabulary in the class effectively.

D. Description of the Institution
Based on the profile of SD 1 Angkasa Bandung, the school was
established in 1962 in Bandung. The first headmaster was Mr. Marsidi.
The location of the school is at Komplek Sukasari, Pajajaran Bandung. At
first, this school was only for the children of TNI AU (Indonesian Air
Force) but now this school has 3 branches in other locations and are
available for public. The vision of the school is to make students
disicipline, religious and capable of achieving their goals. The school has
facilities such as library, canteen, teacher’s room, UKS, and internet

access. At the moment, the headmaster of this school is Mr. Wawan. S,
S.Pd. The school has 10 teachers who teach different subjects.


E. Method of Study
First, I get the data for my term-paper from my internship journal
from January 12, 2015 until February 18, 2015 at SD 1 Angkasa
Bandung. Second, I get the data from the articles and books by
conducting library research. This data is used to analyze the causes,
effects, and potential solutions of the problem.

F. Limitation of the study
I did my internship as a teacher assistant that teaching secondgrade students at SD 1 Angkasa Bandung from January 12, 2015 until
February 18, 2015. There are 30 students in class

B. During my

internship, I found a problem in handling 20 students who lack of
vocabulary.

G. Organization of Term Paper
This term-paper starts with an Abstract, Declaration of
Originality, Acknowledgements, and Table of Contents. Next, there are
four chapters on this term-paper. The first chapter is the Introduction. It

is divided into seven parts, they are: Background of the Study,
Identification of the Problem, Objectives and Benefits of the Study,
Description of Institution, Method of Study, Limitation of the Study, and

Organization of Term-paper. The second chapter is Problem Analysis
and it discusses the causes and the effects of the problem. Then,
Chapter Three describes the potential solutions to solve the problems
along with the positive and negative effects. The last chapter is the
Conclusion. There is also a Bibliography which is the list of the
references used in this paper and this term-paper also has Appendices
that contain Flowchart, Flashcard, Crossword , internship journal and
school profile at SD 1 Angkasa Bandung.
