PT Sinar Sosro, which was established in 1974, is the first bottled tea drinking
company in Indonesia. One of its locations is at Tanjung Morawa, Deli Serdang
District. In facing a business competition, the capacity to accommodate internal and
external uncertainty in making decision is highly needed. Internal uncertainty in this
research was only viewed from the factors of machinery and manpower. External
uncertainty was caused by the uncertainty in demand and lead time of delivery which
caused the uncertainty in ordering raw materials. Descriptive analysis on Food Supply
Chain Networking (FSCN) was done to describe supply chain management. Discussion
was concerned with the target of supply chain, supply chain structure, supply chain
management, supply chain resources, and the process of supply chain business. The
analysis on external uncertainty was done by determining the amount of safety stock,
improving the calculation of demand prediction, identifying the interval of ordering,
determining the amount of optimum ordering of raw materials by using blanket order
system, and conducting simulation of raw material ordering which became the basis for
decision making. The analysis on internal uncertainty was done by describing the
current condition at PT Sinar Sosro, Tanjung Morawa, Medan.
The research was conducted by focusing on the analysis of the variables which
influenced the uncertainty in supply chain. The objective was to decrease the level of
uncertainty in supply chain.
The result of the research showed that the safety stock calculation for the botol
sosro product was 501,913 at the beginning of 2014. Lead time for delivery was 1.49
months, 1.59 months, and 1.43 months for sugar, tea leaves, and bottle cups
respectively. The interval of order for sugar was once in four days for an order of
43,320 kilograms and safety stock of 99,129 kilograms, for tea leaves was once in 12
days for an order of 7,167 kilograms and safety stock of 3,719 kilograms, and for bottle
caps was once in eight days for an order of 4,240,800 kilograms and safety stock of
3,463,845 kilograms. Using Blanket Order System and flexible decision to order raw
materials could decrease the uncertainty in supply chain management and external
uncertainty in particular.
