ABSTRACT

Reo ZulfikarChampa. C1307056. A TRANSLATION ANALYSIS OF
PASSIVE VOICE IN THE OFFICIAL WEBSITES OF MANCHESTER
CITY FOOTBALL CLUB AND LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB. Thesis:
English Department. Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts. SebelasMaret
University, Surakarta. 2015.
This research focuses on the analysis of the way the passive voices are
translated and the level of the translation quality in the official websites of
Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC. The research was conducted to analyze
how the passive voices are translated by the translator and to know how the
quality of the target text in terms of the accuracy and the acceptability.
This research belongs to a qualitative research employing descriptive
method. It applies the purposive sampling to determine the data and the sources of
data. The sources of data are the biography articles in the profile tab of the official
websites of Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC and the informants. The total
number of data is 94 of English passive voices and their translation in Bahasa
Indonesia including the score and assessment from the raters.
The result of this research shows that there are four translation techniques
applied by the translator to translate the passive voices. They are; 1) Literal
Translation, 2) Amplification, 3) Transposition, and 4) Reduction. Meanwhile, the
translation of the passive voices is acceptable enough for target readers with 90 %
acceptable translation and the accuracy of the translation is also good with 89%
accurate translation.
In addition, the result also shows that reduction contributes to the most
unacceptable and inaccurate data. However, the use of reduction is based on the
need to restructure the source text into a more readable target text.
Keyword: Passive Voice, Translation Technique, Accuracy, Acceptability.
