ABSTRACT

A STUDY ON STUDENTS’ MASTERY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT

AT THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 ADIPALA

CILACAP IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/17

  The aims of this study were (1) to find out the students‟ level in writing recount text and (2) to find out the problems encountred by the students. The contribution of this study was that the result of the study contributed to the development of teaching english in general and teaching writing especially in recount text.

  The method used in this study was survey study. The writer determined the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Adipala Cilacap as population. The total population was 105 students.

  Having conducted the study, the writer revealed that the students‟ mastery in writing recount text was in good category. It can be seen that the mean of students‟ achievement was 58,8%. The main problem encountred by the students was in contents of idea expressed. They have difficulties in expressing the idea into good writing. Besides that, other students‟ problems were in contents organization, grammar, style, diction and spelling. It seemed that they were not familiar with recount text. It was caused by the difference between the most form of english recount and the indonesian ones. The problem faced by the students was the mastery in writing recount text.
