ABSTRACT
Anatomical structure of yam (Dioscorea bulbifera) had been done from April-October,
2005 at Plant Sructure and Development Laboratory, Faculty of Science, Andalas University. The
stem structure consist of epidermal (one layer), cortex (7-8 cell layers), extra xilary fiber (I-2 cell
layers) and vascular bundles (amphicribral type) in three circum-ference. The vascular density
increasing centripetally. Anatomical structure of leaf compound with upper epidermal,
differentiated mesopyl (palysade parenchime and spongye parenchime (typically dorsiventral
type) and lower epidermal. The root anatomical structure consist of epidermal, cortex (10-11 cell
layers), endodermal cell, and pith.
