1.3 Statements of the Problem

In order to get the objective of the study systematically, the following question are raised: 1 How can Five-Minute Activities improve the students’ ability in writing a descriptive text ? 2 Is there any significant difference of the students’ achievement in writing a descriptive text between the students who are taught by using Five-Minute Activities and taught by using pictures? 3 What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the Five-Minute Activities in teaching writing descriptive text at the seventh grade students of junior high school?

1.4 Objectives of the Study

The objectives of this study can be stated as follows : 1 To know whether using Five-Minute Activities are able to improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text or not. 2 To know whether there is any significant difference of the students’ achievement in writing a descriptive text between the students taught by using Five-Minute Activities and those taught by using pictures. 3 To identify the advantages and disadvantages of using Five-Minute Activities in teaching writing a descriptive text at the seventh grade students of Junior High School. 7

1.5 Significance of the Study

1 The Writer I get experience from this study. For instance, I know what problems in teaching-learning process especially in teaching writing that have to be faced by English teachers. It will be very worthy when I become a teacher. In addition, Five-Minute Activities can be an alternative approach to teach English for Junior High School students. It is expected that by using these activities, teachers will be able to motivate their students to learn and pay more attention to the materials which are given by them. 2 The Students The result of the study may help the students to able to learn English in an interesting way and improve their ability in creating descriptive text through Five-Minute Activities. 3 The Teacher The teacher could use Five-Minute Activities as an alternative way to teach English to the Junior High School students.

1.6 Limitation of the Study
