An Analysis on Isabella Swan’s Social Conflicts in Stephenie Meyer’s Novel “New
Moon”. Sholawat and Salam will always be given to our last Prophet Muhammad
SAW who has been showed us to right way under the Islamic guidance. This thesis
which was written as the requirement to get “Sarjana” degree will never achieve its

completion without the help of the following persons.
Therefore, the writer wants to sincere thank to his mother and father for their

ABSTRACT

Literature is closely related to daily life. It reflects the events happen in the
society in written form. Novel is one of literary works. By reading novel, the readers
will not cause waste their time, but they will find a lot of fun and wake them from
boredom in their time, get valuable knowledge and meaningful lesson concerning to
the topic and increase their faith, their human life and their social interaction.
In this study, the writer chose a novel entitled “New Moon” by Stephenie
Meyer. There are some reasons why the writer interested in analyzing this novel.
First, the author of this novel, Stephenie Meyer, is one of the famous authors in the
world. Besides, it told about the social conflicts faced by Isabella Swan with other
characters, such as Victoria and Laurent. Moreover, it described the way how she
solved her social conflicts.
This study focused on Isabella Swan’s social conflict and the way she solved
her social conflicts. The writer used descriptive qualitative research design. Thus, the
approach used by the writer is objective approach in analyzing the novel.
Based on research findings and discussion, the writer found the social
conflicts faced by Bella. They are the confrontation between Bella and Edward, Bella
and Laurent, Bella and Aro, and also among Bella, Edward and Jacob. To solve her
problem with Edward, Bella comes and safes Edward at Volterra. To solve her

problem with Laurent, she tries to lie him. She is also helped Jacob to kill Laurent.
To solve her problem with Aro is by making aggreement. The last, to solve her
problem with Edward and Jacob is by giving the explanation clearly to Jacob.
