1.6. Assumption of the Study

Based on the researcher opinion, junior high school students who are taught by using token reinforcement explicitly will gain significantly better achievement than the students who are taught by using verbal reinforcement.

1.7. Scope of the Study

The scope of this research is: 1. Variable The variables used in this study are: a. Token and verbal reinforcement used to the students by the teacher as independent variable. b. Students’ achievement as the dependent variable. 2. Location and Population The population that the researcher selected in this case of study is the seventh year of SMP 21 Semarang. The total numbers of the students in the population was about 75 students of international class. The number of the students of each class was about 25 students. 6

1.8. Outline of the Study

This report of the study is divided into five chapters. Chapter I is the introduction which contains the background of the study, the statement of problems, the objectives of the study, the hypothesis of the study, the significance of the study, the assumption of the study, the scope of the study, and the outline of the study. In the chapter II, the researcher gave some review of the related literature from some sources such as books, previous research, internet download concerning about the theory of reinforcement, student’s motivation, the teacher’s role and the teacher and student process of communication. The third part of this study report is the chapter III. This chapter includes the research design, the research location, the subject of the study, the techniques of collecting data, and the techniques of data analyzing. In the chapter IV, the researcher discussed about the research findings as the result of the classroom tests and observation. The last is the chapter V which contains the conclusion and suggestion after the researcher conducted the research. 7 CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
