themselves or other persons surrounding them that have them do something.Based on these ideas the students are called having high motivation when they are
usually those who share enthusiastically in class, express interest in the subject- matter, and study a great deal. Meanwhile, the students are called having low
motivation because of not having interest to the teacher, material given, and situation will get bad score of English.
Based on the above elaboration, it can be stated that the students who have high motivation will be easier to understand the text given because they are more
motivated in finding out the solution when they are faced by the difficulties in reading comprehension. Otherwise, the students who have low motivation will
have difficulty in understanding the text given because they are less motivated in solving their problems. This is sometimes caused by their enthusiasm in doing
something, especially in comprehending the text itself. Thus, it is supposed that the students having high motivation have better
reading ability than those having low motivation.
3. The Interaction between Teaching Method and Student’s Motivation
Teaching reading comprehension is not an easy task for the senior high school students, so the teachers have to pay more attention on how the students
have to be taught and what kind of method should be applied in order that they have desire to read and understand the text being read easily. In this case,
choosing and applying the proper method is believed able to treat the students to

53 have high motivation in understanding the reading texts. Otherwise, choosing
improper method will bring them to have low desire in learning, that it may influence their motivation to do so. Based on the above elaboration, it can be
concluded that students’ reading comprehension ability can be affected by the method applied by the teacher. Therefore, the teacher ought to be selective in
selecting the method which will be applied in teaching, especially in the teaching of reading comprehension.
Regarding from the above elaboration, Think Pair Share is suitable for the students who have high motivation, based on the characteristics of the method,
firstly, gives students time to think. Secondly, students discuss in pair with their partner. Thirdly, teacher asks students to share their idea in order to create more
critical information. Meanwhile, Direct Instruction seems to be suitable for students have low
motivation since it possesses characteristics which make students passive during the activity. In Direct Instruction, the students usually get knowledge only from
their teacher. They are not demanded to elaborate their ideas, thoughts, and feelings. It means that they don’t need to be active. That is why, direct instruction
is supposed to be more effective for students having low motivation. Thus, the writer assumes that there is an interaction between the teaching
methods and the students’ motivation for teaching reading.
