40 Table 3.9 Categorization of criteria fulfilment Percentage Categorization 80 - 100 Good 60 - 79 Fair 50 - 59 Sufficient Below 50 Poor When the textbook achieved fulfilment of the criteria above 80, the quality would be categorized as good. The quality would be considered as fair if the textbook achieved 60-79 fulfilment. When the achievement was between 50-59, it would be classified into sufficient quality. The quality of the textbook would be categorized as poor if the fulfilment was below 50.

E. Research Procedure

There were some steps done in conducting this research. Those steps were:

1. Preparing the study

The researcher and his partners chose Interlanguage textbook to be analyzed. Interlanguage textbook is one of BSE Buku Sekolah Elektronik which is provided by Indonesian government. The researcher studied about the content of the textbook.

2. Analysing the textbook

The researcher selected the theory to be implemented in evaluating Interlanguage textbook. After that, he adapted the criteria of textbook evaluation which is proposed by Cunningsworth 1995 and made the checklist as the instrument. By using the checklist, the researcher evaluated the textbook. 41

3. Validating the result

The next step was validating the result. To validate the result of the evaluation, the researcher crosschecked it with the other research collaborators’ result. When all researchers agreed, it was assumed that the result was established. This was done to make sure if the textbook were evaluated by the other research collaborators, the result would not be too different.

4. Writing the report

The last step was writing the report. After validating the result, the researcher interpreted the data by calculating the result of the checklist. He used a formula to calculate it and describe the data by using a table of condition provided. The result of the evaluation was written in discussion part and supported with proof taken from the Interlanguage textbook. 42

CHAPTER IV RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter covers the results and discussion. There are two sections in this chapter. First section is about textbook evaluation. Second section is about strengths and weaknesses of Interlanguage: English for Senior High School Student X.

A. Textbook Evaluation

The textbook evaluated in this research was Interlanguage: English for Senior High School Student X. This textbook is written by Joko Priyana, Virga Renitasari and Arnys Rahayu Irjayanti. A checklist adapted from Cunningsworth’s textbook was used to evaluate this textbook. There were eight aspects in this checklist; aims and approaches, design and organization, language content, skills, topic, methodology, teachers’ books, and practical considerations. The overall evaluation summary of the textbook is showed in Table 4.1. Table 4.1 Evaluation Summary Table Evaluation Aspect Fulfilment
