b. The Factors Influencing Students’ Perception Based on Interview
The researcher intended to gain more data on the factors influencing the students’ perception on the implementation of peer feedback in writing report
texts by conducting interviews. After analyzing the interview results, the researcher revealed that four participants were willing to check and give feedback
to their peers’ report texts. Students A, B and C stated that they could learn how to write report texts correctly while giving comments to their peers’ report texts.
Students B and C even admitted that they could discover the mistakes made in writing report texts and how to correct it. Meanwhile, student D argued that she
was willing to check and give feedback to their peers’ report texts as she could learn more about grammar while giving comments. However, students E and F
admitted that they were not willing to check and give feedback to their peers’ report texts. They argued that they need to think before giving comments to their
peers’ report texts. Moreover, they were afraid if they gave wrong comments to their peers.
Related to the answer given by student E, the researcher intended to discover whether or not the participants believed their peers’ comments in their
report texts were correct. Two participants, students C and E, believed that their peers’ comments were correct. One participant namely student B gave fair
response by stating that she would believe in hisher peers’ comments if there was an evidence of her mistakes. Meanwhile, the other participants argued they
did not believe that their peers’ comments were correct. They argued that their
49 peers have the same knowledge as them. Moreover, they thought that even their
peers were not sure in giving comments. The researcher also asked the participants’ willingness when their peers
criticized their report texts. The researcher revealed that all of the participants were willing if their peers criticized their report texts. They stated that they could
learn together while giving feedback and it could improve their knowledge in writing report texts. However, one of the participants, student F argued that his or
her peers’ comments were not necessarily true. “Saya tidak keberatan kalau karangan saya dikomentari. Tapi, kalau
komentar dari teman itu masih meragukan.”Student F I do not mind if my peers give comments to my report texts. But, my
peers’ comments are not necessarily true.
The researcher also revealed that two of the participants would not revise their report texts based on their peers’ comments. Students A, B and E stated that
they would revise their report texts based on their peers’ comments as it could help them in revising their report texts. Meanwhile, students D and F directly
stated that they would not revise their report texts based on their peers’ comments. They argued that they would use their peers’ comment in revising their report
texts if the comments were true. Student C gave fair response by stating that she would use her or his peers’ comments if the comments were correct. But, if the
comments were not correct, she would ask her or his teacher to give feedback.
