ABSTRAKSI
Madu adalah cairan alami yang umumnya mempunyai rasa manis yang dihasilkan oleh lebah
madu dari sari bunga tanaman (floral nektar) (Www. Badan Stadarisasi Nasional 01-3534-2004.
Com).
Berdasarkan Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) Madu No 01-3545 Tahun 2004 adalah 17,5 -22%
padahal kadar air yang dikandung madu lokal adalah dengan kadar air antara 23 – 27 %.(Www.
Honey Quality And International Regulatory Standards.Com). Dari hasil survey dan penerapan
mata kuliah konsep desain pada perpustakan pusat dari tahun 2005 sampai 2007 hanya 9 %
mahasiswa jurusan teknik mesin yang menulis karya ilmiah atau skripsinya mengunakan metode
desain baku.
Berangkat dari kenyataan diatas, maka perlu kiranya dilakukan pengolahan madu untuk
meningkatkan kualitas madu. Salah satu cara adalah dengan metode pengering sistem semprot,
alat yang digunakan adalah spray dryer, Dengan nilai ini berdasarkan pada rata-rata panen untuk
1 stup(rumah lebah) bisa mencapai 1 s/d 2 kg, sebagai alat produksi rumah tangga kapasitas
tersebut lebih efisien. Oleh karena itu perancangan alat penurun kadar air madu kapasitas 25
kg/menit mengunakan Metode Palh and Beitz yang sekalipun sederhana tetapi efektif digunakan
dalam penelitian terdahulu.
