Since the focus on learning English for senior high school students is for daily life communication, even to prepare them in order to continue their study to the higher educational institution. After conducting analysis to the data, the researcher calculated the total number of the test items which qualified for the five authenticity criteria, the researcher put the results into percentage. As the results, the test tasks of reading test items of National Examination year 2012 are 96.7 authentic.

b. The Authenticity of the Test Texts

There were three kinds of indicators used to analyze the authenticity of the test texts namely naturalness of the language used in the test texts, the relevance of the topics to senior high school students, and the real-world representativeness. The result of the analysis shows that most test texts face problem to fulfill the naturalness of language used in the test passages and the real-world representativeness. Likewise the analysis on the test tasks, the researcher found that the relevance of a particular test topic to the learner became another problem to meet the highest degree of authenticity. According to the data, there is only 36 of the test texts which meet the indicator of naturalness of the language used in the test texts. The failure of the test passages to meet the indicator is caused by the existence of linguistic facets like: typographical mistakes, lexis, morphemes, word orders and grammar syntactic matters, diction, and meaning semantic matters. It happened similarly to the test tasks since the test tasks and test passages still had correlation. 76 Afterwards, there are only 98 of the test text topics which are relevant to senior high school students. There is a passage which is irrelevant to the students. The topic is not relevant to senior high school students because the passage used specific terms related to electrical installation. In representing the real world situations, there is only a passage which is qualified for this indicator. Almost all of the passages used in the reading test fails to represent the real-world context even though the topics of the passages are rational and based on real-world context, for instance a news item about ASEAN, a bibliography of some famous people, and an advertisement about selling a building. Unlike what Brown 2004 states that authentic reading passages are taken from real-world sources p.28, the test-designers of the English test items did not mention the sources where the passages were taken from. Another reason is that the samples of the formal letters, announcements, and the advertisements look unnatural viewed from the format and design. Based on the research data, later the results could be calculated and displayed into percentages in which the total number of the test items qualified for the three authenticity criteria on the test passage. As the result, the test texts of reading test items of National Examination year 20112012 are 45.3 authentic. In conclusion, the researcher averaged the percentage of authenticity on the test tasks 96.7 and the test texts 45.3 out. As the result, of the reading test on National Examination year 2012 is considered as 71 authentic. 77
