CHAPTER IV RESEARCH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the detailed information about the data which have been gathered and analyzed. The data is collected from the results of the questionnaires
distributed. The discussion and the interpretations of the findings will be provided to the research questions on the student’s perception of Hot Seat in order to investigate
the foreign language speaking anxiety and its relationship with student’s performance.
A. The Implementation of Hot Seat Game in Critical Listening and Speaking II Class
The researcher had to make sure that the participants had done their Hot Seat experience in Critical Listening and Speaking II Class. Therefore, the research was
conducted by the end of semester. The researcher got the research result based on the questionnaires and also interview with the lecturers of Critical Listening and
Speaking II. Since the participants were students in their fourth semester, it was expected that they had experienced the Hot Seat game in the previous semesters. The
interview with the lecturers of this subject was done in order to know the detailed information about the implementation of Hot Seat activity in the Critical Listening
and Speaking II Class, especially in the speaking class. The researcher had

interviewed two lecturers of the Critical Listening and Speaking II subject. The questions were mostly connected to the implementation of the Hot Seat activity
which later its results would have relationship to the next research discussion about student’s perception on the use of Hot Seat activity.
The researcher interviewed a lecturer who was responsible for three classes and another lecturer who was responsible to manage one class. Both lecturers shared
the similar procedure and technique in implementing Hot Seat game. In speaking class, there would be two or three students who were appointed to do the Hot Seat
game. All of the students did the Hot Seat game in front of the class. The activity was done at the beginning of the class in which the goal was to prepare the students
before the lecture was started. It was a warming up session for the students. The process of selecting the student was done directly. The lecturer selected
the student randomly through lottery or according to their student numbers. Each student should present their knowledge about the theme that was given by the
lecturer. There was limited time given by lecturer for each student. They had to do the Hot Seat in 10 minutes.
For the topic presented in the Hot Seat, it was according to the syllabus made by the lecturers of the Critical Listening and Speaking II subject and it had been
given to the students at the beginning of the semester. Both lecturers had already designed the theme throughout the semester. There were Education, Health, and
Technology. Every week the students presented their own topic according to the theme that had been designed in the syllabus. The designated theme, which had to be
