What Makes a BOC…a BOC?
● 8 Weeks in length
● 3 hours a week
● 24 hours of learning
● Test quizzes Weeks 13 and 57
● Badged quizzes weeks 4 and 8

● No forums
● No discussion activities
● No Facilitators
● No Lead Educator Present
● No set start date
● No set end date

Statistics to Date
● Click through rates to make an enquiry with the OU for formal study are ~2934%
across all BOCs. Existing average click through rate is ~13% on OpenLearn
● Average completion rate is ~9% which is slightly higher than MOOCs ~5%
● Satisfaction rates are very high ~98%
● Learners are willing to share their BOC achievements with their employer or
prospective employer ~2057%

● Student Services have agreed that BOCs undertaken by OU students will be visible
on the online Student Record and in Section 6.1 of the HEAR
● Discussions are underway to provide all or part of the Access curriculum as BOCs
● BOCs are actively promoted through the Social Partnerships Network
● Developed the understanding and practice of Moodle Quizzes
● BOCs are budgets at £25k each and utilise reuse of content
