Introduction
Background of the paper
In this era most of people are speak english without pay attention of tenses and grammar. They are just marely talking, as a result they are understood. Beside it most of people using the google translate which is not necessarily true. Therefore we make this paper for knowledge about past tense.
Purpose of the paper
1. For known about past time, so that easy to use in communicate englsh. 2. As a reference so that is can understand about the past time.
Problem of the paper
1. What does it mean about simple past tense? 2. What does it mean about past continuouse tense? 3. What does it mean about past perfect?

Simple Past Tense
Definition
Past tense is a tenses talk about actions or situations in the past. FORM:
1. VERBAL SENTENCE (+) S + V2
(-) S + did + not + V1 (?) did + s + V1
2. NOMINAL SENTENCE
S+WAS/WERE+ADJ/ADV The use of simple past tense:
1. Use the past tense for events that happened at a specific time in the past. E.g : - Danny swam with me yesterday afternoon.
- I drank a glass of milk yesterday morning.
2. Stating habits conducted in the past, now is not done anymore. E.g : - I never smoked

3. Stated that an event or action that is clearly done in the past, although the timing is not mentioned.
E.g : - my sister gave me a present - the bus was 15 minutes late
4. Used in conditional type 2
E.g : - if you loved me, you would not leave now
- if i were you, i wouldn’t make relationship with him Adverb of time for simple past tense:

Sample of simple past story
Last night, I went to mall with my friends. We did several activity. First, we watched an horror movie in Cinema 21. After that, we played games in game zone. The last activity we did is eat in food court at second floor. When we ate, I saw a little girl who separated with her mother. We helped the girl to find her mother. After we found her morther, we went to home. I felt so happy because I did several activity with my friends and we helped a girl who separated with her mother.

Past Continuous Tense
DefinitionPast continous tense is a form of tenses to declare the events that are happening in the past.
FORM:
S + WAS/WERE + VERB + ING
The use of Past Continuous Tense:
1. Use the past continous tense to declare the event or events that are taking place in the past.
E.g : - Sinta was teaching English last year - I was talking to him ten minutes ago
2. Use the past continous tense to declare that an event or action that is clearly done in the past. Although timing is not know.
E.g : - She was getting dinner
- She was wearing a wedding dress
3. Use the past continous tense for an action that was going on at a time in the past when something else happened.
E.g : - I was watching tv while my father was reading magazine - I was studying when you came
4. Use the past continous tense to declare an event that takes place between two moments in the past.
E.g : - Between Monday and Friday, I was taking English course
5. Use the past continous tense to show an event or the gradual developments. E. g : - His health was getting better

I was writing a lesson all day yesterday with my friend, we were studying english and math yesterday. When my mother called me, i was studying english and she was studying math. Then, later, we decided to leave the house after that. we were going out all the night yesterday.

Past Perfect Tense shows action in the past that happened before some other action in the past and usually shown by a past tense verb.
B. Conditions
There are many conditions to use Past Perfect Tense. These include:
• To show how often something happened in the past Example: I had read the book three times.
• To be used on Reported Speech
Example: I thought he had changed to be a better man
• To express hopes or dreams which is didn’t come true. (Conditional Sentence Type 3)
Example: If he had taken a bath first, he would have missed the train.
C. Formula
(+) S + had + Verb 3 (-) S + had + not + Verb 3
(?) Had + S + Verb 3
To combine two sentences to make a complete Past Perfect Tense, we often use this subordinate conjunction to show which action finished first. The Subordinate Conjunction is:

A. DefinitionPast Perfect Continuous tense shows an action that in the past was temporary happened within the time it lasted when something else happened.
B. Conditions
There are many conditions to use Past Perfect Continuous Tense, these include:
To show period of time which something happened.
To show and action that happened by the time something else happened
C. Formula
(+) S + had been + Verb –ing (-) S + had not been + Verb –ing
(?) Had + S + been + Verb –ing
