3. METHODOLOGY 3.1
Research Design
The writer uses one of the research methods that is library research.Roth 1986 says, Library research is an activity in searching data and information to be
used. The first step did by the writer reads Catherine Cookson’s poems, then the Writer collects some literary books especially books that are relevant to the topic
that can support the analysis and as reference in finishing this paper.
3.2 Data and Data sources
Data in the analysis style of language in the lyrics found in four
Chatherine Cookson’s Poems are Data 1 When I Die, line 1-3, 1-5, 4-5, and 11- 12. Data 2 From My Bed, line 1-3, 1-7, 5-7,8-9, 10 and 13. Data 3 Just A
Saying, line 1, 7, and 9-10. Data 4 I Am Young, line 1-12. The writer chooses
these poems as the data source because the four poems are simple, easy to
understand and the poems has a different story, When I die tell about faithful, From my bed tell about hopes, Just A Saying tell about love and I Am Young
tell about life. Although the poems are simple, but they have more than one language style in each poem. Arikunto 2006:129 says, “dugaan dari sumber
data adalah subjek darimana data diperoleh. Ketika peneliti menggunakan daftar pertanyaan ataupun wawancara untuk mengumpulkan data, penjawab sumber
data memangil orang-orang untuk menjawab atau menanggapi pertanyaan peneliti, baik pertanyaan lisan maupun tulisan”.the notion of data sources are the
subject of where the data are obtained. When the researchers used questionnaries

or interviewers to collect data, then the data sources responder called the people to respond or answer the research question, whether oral or written question.
3.3 Data Collecting Method
In collecting the data, the writer applies observation method. Raharjo and Gunanto 2011:47 say, “Metode observasi adalah kegiatan
pengamatan yang direncanakan, sistematis dan hasilnya dicatat serta dimaknai diinterpretasikan dalam rangka memperoleh pemahaman tentang objek yang
diamati”,
Observation method is observation activities that are planned, systematic, and the result are recorded and understood interpreted in order to gain an
understanding of the object being observed.
3.4 Data Analysis Method
The data are analyzed by using descriptive method. Sugiyono 2005: 21 says, “metode deskriptif adalah suatu metode yang
digunakan untuk menggambarkan atau menganalisis suatu hasil penelitian tetapi tidak digunakan untuk membuat kesimpulan yang lebih luas”.
Descriptive method is a method that is used to describe or analyzed a result of a research, but it does not use to make the larger conclution.

However, the book are not good enought to be the sources’s data in writing this paper. The writer also searched and collected data from internet to
enrich an accurate data. The last , the writer described and analyze the data and made some conclusions. To ease the reader understanding in this method, the
writer describes as chart bellow:
