Abstract: To determine t h e e f f e c t of broken s t a l k on t h e y i e l d
of corn, t w o experiments were conducted a t t h e same time a t t h e
IPB experimental s t a t i o n , Darmiaga IV, Bogor.
In t h e f i r s t experiment, a r t i f i c i a l broken s t a l k of growth: s t a g e 4 ( t a s s e l ing) , s t a g e 5 ( s i l k i n g ), s t a g e 7 ( e a r l y daugh), and s t a g e 8
(hard0dough) on Arjuna and experimental Hybrid IPB-1 v a r i e t i e s .
In t h e second experiment, t h e a r t i f i c i a l broken s t a l k were made
a t t h e e a r l y dough stage a t t h e d i f f e r e n t internodes:
above
main ear and below main ear, Hybrid IPB-1, H6 and Arjuna varieties.
The c m t r o l p l o t s were preventing f r a n lodging o r broken
s t a l k by using bamboe s t i c k .

The e f f e c t of s t a l k breaking on t h e d i f f e r e n t stage of
growth and s t a l k breaking below t h e main e a r s i g n i f i c a n t l y decreased t h e percentage of g r a i n f i l l e d , g r a i n y i e l d and t h e weight
of 100 seeds, but did n o t e f f e c t the ear index.
S t a l k breaking
on internode above t h e main ear d i d n o t s i g n i f i c a n t l y reduced t h e
parameter above.
S t a l k breaking on s t a g e 4 , 5, 7 and 8 decreased t h e g r a i n
y i e l d 41.3, 28.9, 25.0 and 12.3 % respectively. The yield of
Hybrid IPB-1 50 % higher than t h a t of H6 o r Arjuna.

s i pada tanaman jagtang, dua u n i t percobaan t e l a h dilaksanakan pada waktu yang bersamaan d i Kebun Percobaan IPB, Darmaga IV, Bogor.
