ABSTRACT
Children need Emotional Intelligence to overcome their development changes
since their uncontrolled emotions make them aggressive. The objective of the
research was to identify the correlation of Emotional Intelligence with aggressive
behavior in School-Aged Children at SD Siti Hajar, Medan. The research used
descriptive correlation design, and the samples were 89 respondents, taken by
using purposive sampling technique consisted of Demographics, emotional
intelligence, and aggressive behavior. Data processing used person product
moment. The result of the analysis showed that the majority of children's
emotional intelligence in the medium category (67.4%), children’s Aggressive
behavior in the low category (51.7%), and medium category (48.3%). The result
of calculation with person product moment between Emotional Intelligence and
Aggressive behavior were (r) = -0.155 with p value = 0.147. It was concluded
that there was no correlation of Emotional Intelligence with Aggressive behavior
in School-Aged Children at SD Siti Hajar, Medan. Aggressive behavior should be
spared from children by having the exercise to control their emotion in order to
get good emotional intelligence.

ABSTRAK

Anak memerlukan kecerdasan emosional dalam mengatasi perubahan
perkembangannya, emosi yang sering tidak terkontrol menyebabkan anak
cendrung melakukan perilaku agresif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mengidentifikasi hubungan kecerdasan emosional dengan perilaku agresif anak
usia sekolah di SD Siti Hajar Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain
deskriptif korelasi dengan pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling
, jumlah sampel sebanyak 89 responden. Penelitian iini dilakukan pada bulan Mei
2017. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa kusioner yang mencakup data
demografi, kecerdasan emosional dan perilaku agresif. Pengolahan data
menggunakan person product moment. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa
mayoritas kecerdasan emosional anak dalam kategori sedang (67,4%). Perilaku
agresif anak dalam kategori rendah (51,7%), dan kategori sedang terdapat (48,3
%). Hasil perhitungan dengan person product moment antara kecerdasan
emosional dengan perilaku agresif didapatkan (r) = -0,155 dengan nilai

signifikanp-value = 0,147. Disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan
kecerdasan emosional dengan perilaku agresif anak usia sekolah di SDSiti Hajar
Medan. Perilaku agresif seharusnya terhindar dari anak-anak dengan melatih
mereka mengontrol emosi sehingga anak memiliki kecerdasan emosional yang
baik.
