ABSTRACT
Local anesthetic, a common drug that always used in medical field to
reversibly block the nerve impulse conduction when applied to a particular area of
the body. The aim of this research was to study the effects of local anesthetic that
had been buffered by sodium bicarbonate.
This research was literature study that based on reading, interpreting and
composing information from various references, including journals, textbooks,
and websites.
The study shows that buffering local anesthetic can increase the pH of the
solution and increase the number of available uncharged molecules of local
anesthetic that are functioning to block the generation and propagation of nerve
impulse.
In conclusion, the buffered local anesthetic is able to decrease the pain
during injection, decrease the time of onset and provide a better anesthesia effect.

ABSTRAK
Anestetikum lokal adalah obat yang sering digunakan dalam bidang
medis untuk memblokir konduksi impul saraf secara reversibel bila diaplikasikan
ke daerah tubuh tertentu.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari efek dari
anestetikum lokal yang telah diberi larutan bufer natrium bikarbonat.
Penelitian ini merupakan studi literatur yang didasarkan pada membaca,
menafsirkan dan menyusun informasi dari berbagai referensi, termasuk jurnal,
buku dan situs web.
Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa penambahan larutan buffer pada
anestetikum lokal dapat meningkatkan pH larutan dan meningkatkan jumlah
molekul bermuatan dalam anestetikum lokal yang berfungsi untuk memblokir
listrik dan penyebaran impul saraf.
Kesimpulannya, penambahan larutan bufer pada anestetikum lokal
mampu mengurangi nyeri selama penyuntikan, mengurangi waktu mula kerja dan
memberikan efek anestesi yang lebih baik.
