ABSTRACT
Radyan Wresniwira Sandi. C0309051. 2016. An Analysis of Translation
Techniques and Translation Quality of Economic Terms in Uniform Customs
& Practices for Documentary Credit no. 600 Revision 2007. Undergraduated
Thesis, Surakarta. English Department. Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Sebelas
Maret University.

The research focuses on the analysis of translation technique and quality of
economic terms in Uniform Customs & Practices for Documentary Credit no. 600
Revision 2007.
The objectives of the research are to find out the translation techniques used
in translating economic terms and the quality of the translation in terms of
accuracy and acceptability.
The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The
data were collected using purposive sampling technique. The methods of data
collection were content analysis and interview. From the content analysis, there
are 60 data that were found. In interview, questionnaires were distributed to three
raters to gather the information of translation quality.
The result of the data analysis shows that there are 6 translation techniques
that are used to translate the economic terms. They are borrowing (29 data),
amplification (1 datum), established equivalent (27 data), literal translation (2
data), and calque (1 datum). Dealing with the accuracy of the translation, the
result shows that: 1) category A (accurate) covers 59 data (98,33%); and 2)
category B (less-accurate) covers 1 datum (1,67 %). In acceptability aspect, the
result shows that: 1) category A (acceptable) covers 28 data (46,67%); 2) category
B (less-acceptable) covers 10 data (16,67%); 3) category C (unacceptable) covers
22 data (36,67%). Therefore, it can be concluded that the translation of economic
terms are mostly accurate and less-acceptable.
In translating the economic terms, the translator should produce more
qualified translation in order to reduce the misunderstanding. The translator
should have a good understanding in economic knowledge from both source and
target language.
