Abstrak

Kosakata merupakan elemen dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar. Ini adalah keterampilan dasar siswa yang diperlukanuntuk memungkinkan mereka untuk menguasai empat keterampilan berbahasa: membaca, menulis, mendengar, dan berbicara. Mengajar kosakata bahasa Inggris penting untuk mengetahui arti dari sebuah kata. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan proses mengajar kosakata di SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar. Hal ini dilakukan untuk menggambarkan proses, masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru, dan cara guru untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut di SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar.

Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Penulis mendapatkan data dari penelitianmelalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumen. Penelitian ini mengambil dokumentasi bahan ajar, siswa lembar kerja dan buku-buku yang digunakan di kelas dalam mengajar kosakata di SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo. Subyek penelitian ini dibatasi untuk guru dan siswa dari kelas IV SD N 1 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar. Objek penelitian ini berfokus pada prosedur pengajaran kosa kata. Data dari penelitian ini adalah catatan lapangan, siswa lembar kerja, transkrip wawancara tentang mengajar kosakata. Sumber data acara, informan, dan dokumen. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Untuk menganalisis data, penulis mengambil prosedur mengurangi data, menampilkan data dan menarik kesimpulan.

Hasil penelitianpembelajaran kosakata menunjukkan bahwa untuk menarik siswa untuk menjadi antusias dalam mengikuti pembelajaran bahasa Inggris guru harus menggunakan media pembelajaran untuk memungkinkan agar siswa semangat belajar, seperti gambar, permainan dan permainan lainnya untuk membuat siswa tertarik. Dalam proses ini, guru harus memberikan motivasi, dorongan untuk membuat siswa tertarik pada pelajaran bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an element in teaching English in Elementary School. It is a basic skill that students need to enable them to master four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Teaching English vocabulary is important to know the meaning of a word. The purpose of this research is describing the process of teaching learning vocabulary at SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar. It is conducted to describe the process, the problem faced by the teacher, and the problem solution made by the teacher at SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar.

The type of this research is descriptive research. The writer gets the data of this research from observation, interview and document. The documentare the teaching material, students worksheet and the books used in the class in teaching vocabulary in SD 01 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo. The subject of this research limits to the teacher and students of the fourth grade of SD N 1 Jatikuwung Gondangrejo Karanganyar. The object of this research focuses on the procedure of teaching vocabulary. The data of this research are field notes, students worksheet, interview transcript about teaching vocabulary. The data sources are event, informant, and document. The methods of collecting data there are observation, interview and documentation. In analyzing the data, the writer takes the procedure of reducing the data, displaying the data and drawing conclusion.

The result of this research of teaching learning vocabulary show that to attract the students to be enthusiastic in participating in learning English the teacher must use learning media to enable students to follow the spirit of learning, such as pictures, games and other games in order to make the students exited. In the teaching-learning process, the teacher should provide motivation, encouragement to make students interested in the subject learning English.

1. Introduction

English in Indonesia is one of the lessons in elementary school. In some elementary schools in Indonesia English is taught as a local content. Vocabulary is an element in teaching English in elementary school. It is basic skill that students need to enable them to master four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Teaching English vocabulary is important to know the meaning of a word. Because of this reason vocabulary is given at the beginning stage of learning the language. New vocabulary is taught by the teacher and the students

the meaning andnot always open the dictionary to find out the meaning of the vocabulary. If the students have limited vocabulary they will get difficulty in understanding texts and conversation. In SD 01 Jatikuwung English is adopted only as a local content. English is given two hours in one week. The teacher has some problems in teaching vocabulary because of the limited time and media. In the elementary school the purpose of English teaching in standard of competence is learning active, innovative, creative and fun for the students and the teacher can create learning English which is meaningful and suitable with the context of everyday. So the teacher and students in the learning process did not feel bored because at the time the teacher gave the lesson using different and interesting methods.

2. Method

In the elementary school English is only as local content subjects, in which the students studies English twice a week with limited time. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. Descriptive qualitative is a descriptive study conducted by someone with real data. By using descriptive qualitative research, the researcher describes the procedure of teaching learning vocabulary. The subject of the study limits to the teacher and the students of fourth grade of SD N 1 Jatikuwung. The object of the study focuses on the process of teaching vocabulary to the students in SD N1 Jatikuwung. The data sources are event, informants and documentation. The methods of collecting data are observation, interview and documentation. The technique for analyzing data are reducing the data, displaying the data and drawing conclusion. The credibility of data the researcher used triangulation of source, methodology and theory.

3. Discussion

From the results of the study the researcher found that the teacher in teaching English still uses traditional and monotonous method so students are less interested in following the lesson. Many students make noisy and fell bored with the learning system applied by the teacher. The students have trouble in

pronouncing vocabulary so they had to repeat many times in order to remember and if they do not know the meaning they open the dictionary to find out the meaning of vocabulary.

The researcher compared with this theory even though it did not fit with the sequence ranging from opening until closing. Because in the process of teaching learning the teacher still uses the traditional way of learning his mother tongue and the students still use dictionary so, the students can know the meaning of the new word and should remember. But the students feel bored because the system is lees attractive students so enthusiastic. To attract students the teacher must use learning media to enable students to learn such as picture, games and songs in order to make the students exited. In the process the teacher should provide motivation, encouragement to students so that they are interested in the subject and enjoyed learning English. The finding is different from previous study the researcher constructed by Handayani, (UMS 2003), in the research “the study on teaching vocabulary using song to the second year student of SMP N 1 Boyolali in 2006/2007”. The previous researcher focused the study on the effectiveness of song as a means of teaching vocabulary. The result of the research showed that after the writer conducted the action, the student’s motivation to study about vocabulary and student’s achievement of vocabulary has improved. And this is different with the result of previous study which the finding of research is focused on vocabulary and students achievement has improved. This research focused on procedure of teaching vocabulary.

4. Closing

From the results of the study the researcherconcluded that the teaching and learning process in SD N1 jatikuwung is very monotonous and boring. The teacher should use various learning methods so that the students are interested in learning English. Using various techniques and procedures are important to the students, because learning English fun will keep the students interested and not

methods to the make students interested in learning English, to increase of the knowledge in teaching the teacher can read from books and other sources in order to teach a variety of techniques fun learning methods.
