Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh jenis kemasan dan pelapis
benih yang memberikan pengaruh terbaik terhadap viabilitas, vigor benih serta
vigor bibit jagung selama periode simpan tiga bulan. Penelitian dilakukan sejak
bulan April 2012 sampai Juni 2012 di Laboratorium Teknologi Benih dan Rumah
Kaca Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. Penelitian
menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari dua belas
kombinasi perlakuan yaitu jenis kemasan dan jenis pelapisan benih. Kemasan
terdiri dari tiga macam yaitu kantong plastik, kantong semen dan kantong terigu,
sedangkan pelapisan benih terdiri dari empat macam yaitu tanpa pelapisan benih,
kitosan 3%, minyak cengkeh 1% dan kitosan 3% + minyak cengkeh 1%. Setiap
perlakuan tersebut diulang tiga kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat
pengaruh jenis kemasan dan pelapisan benih terhadap kadar air, daya
berkecambah, indeks vigor, kesehatan benih dan vigor bibit 3 bulan setelah
penyimpanan. Benih jagung yang disimpan dalam kemasan kantong plastik yang

disertai pelapisan benih dengan kitosan 3% + minyak cengkeh 1% menunjukkan
daya simpan yang relatif baik dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. Hal
tersebut dapat dilihat pada kadar air 1 BSP (bulan setelah penyimpanan), 2 BSP
dan 3 BSP, daya berkecambah 1 BSP, 2 BSP dan 3 BSP, indeks vigor 1 BSP, 2
BSP dan 3 BSP, serta pada infeksi jamur 1 BSP, 2 BSP dan 3 BSP.

This research aimed to obtain storage package and seed coating the best
effect on seed viability, vigor and seedlings vigor of corn after three months
storage period. The research was conducted from April 2012 until June 2012 in

the Laboratory of Seed Technology and Greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty of
Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor. The research design was Completely
Randomized Design (CRD) consisted of twelve treatments was combination
treatment were the storage package and seed coating. that storage package was
consisted of three various of plastic, cement and flour bags, while the seed coating
was consisted of four various of seeds without coating, 3% chitosan, 1% clove oil
and 3% chitosan + 1% clove oil. Each treatments was then replicated three times.
The results showed that there was the influence of storage package and seed
coating on seed moisture content, viability of corn seed, vigor index, fungal
infections and seedlings vigor at 3 months after storage. Plastic bags and seed
coating with 3% chitosan + 1% clove oil showed better storability of treatments.
It has showed that seed moisture content at 1 month after storage (MAS), 2 MAS
and 3 MAS, viability of corn seed at 1 MAS, 2 MAS and 3 MAS, vigor index at 1
MAS, 2 MAS and MAS, and fungal infections at 1 MAS, 2 MAS and 3 MAS.
