ERGONOMICS CURRICULUM IN FACULTY OF MEDICINE UDAYANA UNIVERSITY BALI

ABSTRACT

Faculty of Medicine Udayana University in Bali has six Study Programs i.e. Study
Program of Medical Education, Study Program of Public Health, Study Program of
Psychology, Study Program of Physiotherapy, Study Program of Nursing, and
Study Program of Dentistry.
All above study programs aim to have graduates

that have the

competence to carry out health services in the community. Beside the common
diseases, the occupational diseases are also prevalent in the society; while
physicians, public health workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses, dentists
should perform their duties effectively and efficiently and in a state of comfort,

safe, healthy and productive.
At Udayana University ergonomics lectures have been introduced by the
lecturers from the Department of Physiology, Study Program of Medical
Education. Then the subject of ergonomics is adopted and entered into the
curriculum of Study Program of Public Health, and also into Study Program of
Medical Education, Study Program of Psychology, Study Program of
Physiotherapy. Ergonomics is not yet included in the curriculum of Study Program
of Nursing and Study Program of Dentistry.

Topics of ergonomics lectures and the teaching load are varying. In
medical education study program are: Health ergonomic, given for 5 sessions
each for 1 hour lecture and one hour of discussion. The topics are: ergonomic
aspects of the relation between human and equipment; ergonomic aspects of
the work environment and ergonomic aspects of work organization. In Psychology
study program given load of 2 credits with several topics, among others:
Introduction and ergonomics for the beginner; muscular work, work efficiency,
the design of work station display's control, load handling and others. In the study
program of Physiotherapy the teaching load is 3 credits with several topics,

among others: analysis of lifting and carrying load, sitting and work posture which
related to physiotherapy problem, office ergonomics, computer and problem
related to physiotherapy and others. In Study Program of Nursing and Dentistry
ergonomics has not been include in the curriculum. It takes time and good
approach to the two Study Programs to introduce ergonomics lecture into their
curriculum.
In all the above study programs ergonomics lectures are as local content
that accompanies the core curriculum. Because the Physiology Department staff
are not permanent staff at the above Study Program it is required that initial
socialization carried out to all teaching staff in order the ergonomics is received
and be part of content of their curriculum
