Objectives
: At the end of the course, students are expected to be to able :
1. explain the basic concepts in TEFL ;
2. explain school-level curriculum development and its relation to instructional planning;
3. Identify principles and models of instruction planning;
4. compare at least two models of instructional planning;
5. identify the content, process, and assessment standards for SMP/SMA
6. analyze standard and basic competencies of English for both SMP and SMA;
7. formulate indicators of standard and basic competencies attainment based on their
analysis;
8. plan instructional activities;
9. select and develop assessment tools;
10.manage classroom; and
11. implement and revise instruction.
2. Course Description :
This course is designed to help students grasp the notion, principles, and elements of school

level curriculum and national education standards, particularly content, graduate outcome,
process, and assessment standards and how these documents are translated into syllabus and
instructional planning. The course will also be dealt with principles and theories underlying
instructional planning, models of instructional planning, identifying the elements of English
syllabus, formulating content standard into indicators and specific instructional objectives,
planning instructional activities, choosing and developing instructional media and teaching
materials , developing assessment tools, implementing and revising instruction.
3. Learning Activities:
To help students attain the objectives, learning activities such as classroom discussion, document
analysis, case studies, and workshops with invited guest leactures will be the primary modes. In
addition, lecturing and school visit will be provided to help them connect theories and practices.
4. Media:
LCD Projectors and other relevant instructional media will be used to optimize learning
5. Evaluation and Grading Policy
1. Two assignments: developing semester planning
(syllabus) and weekly planning
2. Class attendance and participation
3. A midterm test
4. A final test
