3.3.3 Observation
Observation as a data collection technique has specific characteristics when compared to other techniques, namely interviews and questionnaires. If interviews and
questionnaires always communicate with people, the observation is not only limited on communicating with people, but also on other natural objects. Sugiyono, 2009:
203. The observation is used to measure the practical aspect of the studen
t’s worksheet. Its purpose is to observe the practicality of student’s worksheet during
teaching and learning process, the use of lesson plan during teaching and learning process, and any obstacles of the student’s worksheet usage during teaching and
learning process. There are two kinds of observations. Arikunto 2006: 157 classified it as follows:
a. Non- systematic observation
Observation done by the observer without any observation instrument b.
Systematic observation Observation done by the observer using any guidelines as the instrument
This study used systematic observation as the instrument to measure the practicality of the student’s worksheet during the class, and the English teacher of
SMP IT Insan Cendekia would be the observer to give any ideas or suggestions about the educational product to be much better later on.
3.3.4 Test
There were two types of the test conducted on this research. The first one was pre-test which was conducted on 10
th
of March, 2015. It was aimed at measuring students’
reading comprehension before receiving the treatment from the researcher. The second one was post-test on 12
th
of March, 2015. It was aimed at getting the final result of the students’ performance after having the treatment using the student’s
worksheet developed by the researcher. After that, the results of those two tests were analyzed using SPSS application to calculate whether the students’ reading
comprehension improved or not.
