explain the reason behind one’s action. Moreover, the defense mechanisms theory is the theory to explain the character’s action. I expect, this study can help the
readers to realize that one’s reaction comes from one’s motives.

This study deals with one’s motives that cause the curious incident of the dog. This study is limited only for discussing the problems formulated in the
research questions. The writer would like to focus on one of the main characters motives, Mr. Boone, why he kills the dog, named Wellington.
