CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter presents the conclusion of the study and some suggestions for English teachers and other researchers. The conclusion was formulated from the
research findings discussed in the preceding chapter and it consisted of a summary of the answers to the problems of this study. Some suggestions
for the English teachers and other researchers
are also presented in this chapter.
A. Conclusion
This study is aimed to provide the first grade students of SMA 1 Wates Yogyakarta with a set of interactive web-based program for listening practice that
is specially designed to their level of proficiency and interest.
As stated in the problem formulation on Chapter 1, this study is aimed to find out how a set of
Interactive Web-based Program for Listening Practice for first grade students of SMA 1 Wates Yogyakarta was designed and the presentation of the developed program.
In order to answer the first question, an instructional design model is needed to be developed. The instructional design model that is being used in this study was
generated
from the synchronization of two instructional design models developed by Kemp and Dick and Reiser. Some steps of both instructional design models
were synchronized so as to fit the particular demands and resources available. The models started with analyzing learners’ need and ended by conducting a final
revision of the materials. The steps of designing the instructional materials were as follows:
1. Analyzing learners’ characteristic 2. Formulating goals, topics and general
3. Formulating learning objectives 4. Developing the instructional materials
5. Conducting evaluation and revision In the first step
,
the writer conducted a need survey to obtain the learners’ needs, interests and difficulties. In this study, the need survey is used as the
foundation in designing the materials. In the second step, the writer formulated goals and listed topics based on the need survey results. In the third step, the writer
constructed the learning objectives of the study. Then, the writer developed instructional materials which included a variety of teaching learning activities and
tasks.
After the designed materials were completed, fifteen students and three teachers of SMA 1 Wates Yogyakarta were requested to evaluate and gave
feedback on the design. In addition, the writer also asked two lecturers of English Education Study Program Sanata Dharma University to give the evaluation on the
design. The responses were then analyzed and described in terms of central tendency. The data calculation showed that the total mean score was 4.12 on a
scale of 1 to 5, whereas the mode was clustered around 4. Based on the scores obtained, the respondents indicated that the designed materials
were relevant, appropriate, and the writer would keep the nature of the application
although some revisions were necessary.
The answer for the second question stated in Problem Formulation in Chapter I, is the presentation of designed materials which included 8 units. They were as
follows:
