ABSTRAK
Kertas karya ini berjudul “The Strategies of Katniss Struggle of Life in “Quarter
Quell III Games” in The Hunger Games : Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins”.
Novel ini adalah salah satu karya sastra yang tak kalah menarik dengan kertas
karya lainnya seperti cerpen, komik, majalah, dan lainnya. Novel ini bercerita
tentang seorang wanita muda yang bernama Katniss Everdeen yang harus
berjuang hidup untuk keluarga dalam sebuah permainan yang mematikan dimana

permainan ini dinamakan Hunger Games. Hunger Games adalah permainan pada
acara tahunan di Capitol, yang diikuti oleh seorang anak laki-laki dan perempuan
yang berusia antara 12-18 tahun peserta dipilih berasal dari dua belas distrik yang
melalui pengundian untuk bersaing dalam pertarungan mematikan untuk
mendapatkan uang dan makanan. Permainan ini menguji ketahanan seseorang
untuk dapat bertahan hidup. Dalam kertas karya ini penulis akan membahas
tentang strategi-strategi perjuangan hidup yang dimiliki oleh Katniss. Dan
strategi-strategi yang dimiliki Katniss, salah satu strateginya membuat hubungan
cinta dengan Peeta, dengan tulus dan tanpa pamrih dan pada akhirnya Katniss dan
Peeta tetap bertahan hidup di dalam permainan tersebut. Dalam penulisan kertas
karya ini, penulis menggunakan penelitian deskriptif dan menggunakan
pendekatan intrinsik oleh Wellek dan Warren (1997:139) yang merupakan
pendekatan yang mengambil data dari teks itu sendiri.

ABSTRACT
This paper entitled “The Strategies of Katniss Struggle of Life in “Quarter Quell
III Games” in The Hunger Games : Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins”. This

novel is one of literary work that is not less interesting with another literary works
such as short stories, comics, magazines and more. This novel tell about a young
woman that must struggle of life for her family and loved ones in a kill games
which this games was called “Hunger Games”. Hunger Games is a games an
annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12-18 from each of twelve
districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a battle to
the death to get money and food. This games test someone to survive. In this
paper, the writer will discuss about the strategies of struggle of her life. And the
strategies for struggle of life, One of her strategy is her love relationship with
Peeta, sincerely and selflessly and in the end Katniss and Peeta survive in the
game. In writing this paper, the writer use of descriptive approach and uses
intrinsic approach by Wellek and Warren (1994:24) which is the approach taken
the data from text itself.
