ABSTRAK
Tesis ini berjudul Transitivitas dan Konteks Situasi Teks Bacaan Buku
Bahasa Inggris Kelas X. Teks bacaan yang dijadikan bahan penelitian
dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui bagaimana teks bacaan buku bahasa Inggris
dalam mengekspresikan pesan. Dari hasil identifikasi, maka masalah yang dibahas
meliputi transitivitas, konteks situasi. Di dalam penganalisisan transitivitas dan
konteks situasi digunakan teori Linguistik Fungsional Sistemik dengan metode
deskriptif kualitatif. Sebagai dasar kajian konteks bahasa, transitivitas bahasa
berperan penting dalam teks wacana tersebut. Transitivitas merupakan pemakaian
bahasa dalam mengungkapkan pikiran atau ide dan pengalaman pada teks wacana.
Transitivitas bahasa menggambarkan fungsi bahasa teks wacana yang mendasari
kajian konteks bahasa. Konteks bahasa berkaitan dengan konteks situasi, konteks
budaya, dan konteks ideologi. Tesis ini berfokus pada konteks situasi, oleh karena
itu, setiap klausa diidentifikasi dan dianalisis transitivitas. Dari hasil analisis
transitivitas bahasa tersebut, dilakukan uji silang terhadap konteks situasi. Dengan
demikian, dapat ditemukan hubungan transitivitas dan konteks situasi teks bacaan
buku bahasa Inggris kelas X. Jenis proses transitivitas yang ditemukan terdiri atas
proses material (33,07%), proses ralasional Identifikasi (25,58%), proses tingkah
laku (8,27%), atribut (7,48%), mental persepsi (3,15%), mental kemauan
(5,91%), verba (5,12%), relasional kepemilikan (5,12%), mental kognisi (4,72%),
mental afeksi (0,79%), dan wujud (0,79%). Proses material dan proses relasional
berada pada tingkat persentase yang paling dominan di antara proses yang lain.
Konteks sosial berfokus pada konteks situasi memunculkan medan wacana,
pelibat wacana, dan sarana wacana. Pola hubungan transitivitas dan konteks
situasi teks bacaan buku bahasa Inggris adalah positif dan menunjukkan adanya
korelasi antara keduannya. Dengan mengetahui sistem transitivitas dalam teks
maka akan sangat memudahkan untuk menganalisis konteks situasi.

ABSTRACT
This thesis entitled “Transitivity and Context of Situation of the Reading Text
book English class X”. The purpose of reading text is to find out how the reading
text English book convey their message. The problems discussed included
transitivity, context situation, the pattern of the relationship between transitivity
and context situation. In analyzing transitivity and context situation used Systemic
Functional Linguistic theory with descriptive qualitative method. As the basis of
language context plays important role in expressing thoughts or ideas and
experiences on the context of discourse. Transitivity is representation in language
of process, the participant, and the circumstantial. Social context is related to the
contexts of situation, culture and ideology. This thesis focuses on the context of
the situation. Therefore every clause identified and analyzed. The language of
transitivity analysis result were crosschecked against the context of the situation
can thus be found transitivity relationships and the social context of reading text
book English class X. Type of process transitivity found to comprise up material
(33,07%), process relational identification (25,58%) , process behavioral
(8,27%), process relational attribute (7,48%), process mental perception (3,15%),
process mental desire (5,91%), process verbal (5,12%) process relational
ownership (5,12%), process mental cognition (4,72%), process mental affection
(0,79%) and process existent (0,79%) . Process material and relational showing
types of dominant processes. The social context focuses the situational context
brought up the field, tenor and mode. The pattern of relationships between
transitivity and social context focuses of context situation reading text English
book class X was positive and much closer and showed a correlation between the
two variables. Knowing the transitivity system in the text it would be easier to
analyze the social context that focuses on the context of situation.
