Abstract
Ba ckg rou nd : Guava leaves cont ain t annins and saponins t hat have been known t o
have ant helm int ic effect . This st udy aim ed t o det erm ine t he effect of guava leaf
ext ract t oward m ort alit y of Ascar is suum , Goeze in vit ro
M e t ho ds: The st udy was a laborat ory experim ent al research using t he post - t est
only cont rolled group design. Subj ect s were adult Ascaris suum , Goeze. The
sam pling t echnique used was purposive sam pling. Subj ect s were divided int o 7
groups, each group consist ing of 5 worm s, replicat ion perform ed 4 t im es. Saline
solut ion was used in negat ive cont rol group, pir ant el pam oat e 5 m g/ m l was used in
posit ive cont rol gr oup, while t he t reat m ent group used guava leaf ext ract
concent rat ion of 20% , 40% , 60% , 80% , and 100% . Worm s were im m ersed in t he
t est solut ion at 25 m L and was incubat ed at 37 ĚŠ. Observat ions were m ade every 1
hour for 7 hours and count ed t he num ber of dead worm s for 7 hours. Dat a were
analyzed wit h Kruskal- Wallis t est , followed by Mann Whit ney t est and probit
analysis.
Re sult s: Tot al num ber of dead worm s aft er 7 hours of observat ion in t he negat ive
cont rol group was 0, guava leaf ext ract concent rat ion of 20% , 40% , 60% , 80% , and
100% respect ively by 4, 7, 12, 20, and 20, and in t he posit ive cont rol group was
20. Kruskal Wallis t est result s show ed a significant difference, while Mann Whit ney
t est show ed som e significant and unsignificant differences am ong t hose groups ( p
< 0.05 and p> 0.05) . Pr obit analysis showed LC50 and LC90 r espect ively at
concent rat ion 54.320% and 74.516% ..
