Abstract. The main purposive of this research areThis research aims: 1) to determine the
difference between students learning motivation the low class and the potential class, 2) to
determine the difference between self-confidence of low class students and potential class
students. The subjects in this study were students of SMP Negeri 2 Waru Sidoarjo 100
students consisting of 50 students low class and 50 students potential class, with a
sampling technique proportioned stratified random sampling (the selection is based on a
group of subjects and grade levels of research objectives, in a random way through
sweepstakes). The analysis is used to see the differences in learning motivation and
confidence between the student and the low class and potential class using t-Test. Based on
the analysis, the differences between students learning motivation low class and potential
class students obtained results t (-6,129)
