HUBUNGAN ANTARA PEMUASAN NEED FOR AFFILIATION DENGAN
SELF-DISCLOSURE PADA ORANG DENGAN HIV/AIDS (ODHA)

ABSTRAK
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) adalah virus yang menyerang sistem
kekebalan tubuh manusia, sedangkan Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) merupakan kumpulan gejala penyakit yang disertai oleh infeksi HIV. Orang
dengan HIV/AIDS (ODHA) menghadapi permasalahan yang kompleks karena
kondisi fisik yang memburuk, stigma negatif, dan didiskriminasi oleh masyarakat.
Setiap ODHA memiliki need for affiliation. Jika need dipenuhi maka akan
meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan. Jika tidak dipenuhi akan menimbulkan gangguan
psikologis. ODHA perlu berinteraksi dengan cara mengungkapkan hal-hal
mengenai dirinya atau self-disclosure. Berbagai penelitian telah dilakukan untuk
melihat self-disclosure dan need for affiliation pada ODHA akan tetapi masih
sedikit penelitian yang mengungkap hubungan antara keduanya. Oleh karena itu,
penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara need for affiliation dengan
self-dsiclosure pada ODHA. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan
jenis penelitian korelasional. Subjek dalam penelitian berjumlah 52 ODHA yang
tinggal di Kabupaten Toba Samosir dan mendapat pendampingan Komite AIDS
HKBP. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner selfdisclosure yang disusun berdasarkan dimensi self-disclosure dari teori DeVito dan
kuesioner need for affiliation yang disusun berdasarkan aspek need for affiliation

oleh Hill yang berdasarkan teori McClelland. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada
hubungan antara need for affiliation dengan self-disclosure pada ODHA, dengan
nilai korelasi sebesar ryx = .966, dan nilai p = .000 (p < .05) yang berarti ada
hubungan yang signifikan dan bersifat positif antara need for affiliation dengan selfdisclosure pada ODHA

FULFILLMENT WITH SELF-DISCLOSURE ON PEOPLE LIVING WITH
HIV/AIDS (PLWHA)

ABSTRACT
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus which attacks human
immune system, whereas Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is
condition caused by the infection of HIV. People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA)
must face complex problems such as worsen physical condition, negative stigma,
and discrimination by society. Every PLWHA have a need for affiliation. If the need
are fulfilled it will increase health quality. But if not fulfilled it can cause

psychological disorder. PLWHA need to interact by expressing thing about them or
self-disclosure. Many research has been done to see self-disclosure and need for
affiliation on PLWHA but there is still little research that reveals the relationship
between that. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the relationship
between need for affiliation with self-disclosure on people living with HIV/AIDS
(PLWHA). This study was conducted using quantitative methods with correlational
research. The amount of the subject in this study is 52 PLWHA who live in Toba
Samosir District and get help from HKBP AIDS Committee. Measuring instruments
in this study are self-disclosure questionnaire which based on self-disclosure
dimention from DeVito theory and need for affiliation questionnaire which based
on need for affiliation aspect by Hill from McClelland theory. The result show that
there are relationship between need for affiliation and self-disclosure on PLWHA,
with correlational value ryx = .966, and p = .000 (p < .05) which means there is
significant and positive relationship between need for affiliation and self-disclosure
on PLWHA.
