Abstrak

Film selalu mempengaruhi dan membentuk masyarakat berdasarkan isi
pesan di baliknya. Pesan-pesan atau nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam film dapat
mempengaruhi penonton. Film Maleficent merupakan film adaptasi dongeng
Sleeping Beauty yang menceritakan kehidupan seorang peri bernama Maleficent.
Melalui film ini, karakter perempuan digambarkan sebagai subjek narasi yang
aktif dan membawa pesan feminisme. Topik feminisme menarik perhatian peneliti
karena selama ini perempuan sering digambarkan hanya sebagai objek narasi yang
pasif bahkan objek erotis utama dalam film. Berdasarkan hal tersebut peneliti
ingin mengetahui bagaimanakah representasi feminisme dalam film Maleficent.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme
dan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika khususnya semiotika Roland Barthes.
Terdapat tiga tahap untuk menganalisis objek menurut Barthes, yaitu tahap
denotasi, tahap konotasi dan mitos. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa film
Maleficent merupakan film yang merepresentasikan feminisme dengan
menampilkan kekuatan perempuan. Subtema yang digunakan untuk menganalisa

film tersebut adalah hubungan perempuan dengan alam, perempuan sebagai
pemimpin dan hubungan perempuan dengan anak.

REPRESENTASION OF FEMINISME IN THE FILM
(SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF ROLAND BARTHES ABOUT FEMINISM IN
MALEFICENT FILM)

Abstract

Film always influencing and forming society based on the content of
message behind it. Messages or values that contained in the film can influence the
audience. Maleficent film is adaptation of fairy tale Sleeping Beauty that tells the
life of a fairy named Maleficent. Through this film, the women character are
portrayed as active narrative subject and bring feminism message. Feminism
topic interests the researcher because during this time women are portrayed as
passive narrative objects even as erotic objects in the film. Based on this movie,

the researcher is willing to know how the representation of feminism in the movie
Maleficent. This study is a qualitative research, with constructivism and applied
the particular semiotic approach specifically in Roland Barthes semiotic. There
are three stages to analyze the object according to Barthes, the stage of
denotation, connotation and myth stage. The result show that Maleficent is a
movie that represents feminism by showing the power of women. Subtheme used
to analyze the film is the relationship of women with nature , women as leaders
and the relationship of women with children
