ABSTRACT
Hidayat, Dedy Syarif. 2012. "The Elements within Clauses in “the Jakarta Post”
Headline News on the Fuel Prices Raising Issue in April 2012". Skripsi of
English Education Department; Teacher Training and Education Faculty of
Muria Kudus University. Advisors: (1) Agung Dwi Nurcahyo, SS, M.Pd. (2)
Dr. H. A. Hilal Madjdi, M.Pd.
Key words: Systemic functional Linguistic, Ideational Meanings and Elements
It has been understood that the head line news deal with everyday social life,
and that the way the writers write the texts represents the functions of language in
daily life. In this point, language is structured to make three kinds of meanings
simultaneously: experiential or ideational, interpersonal and textual.
This research will be done with the purpose to find out the ideational meaning
on the headline news on the fuel increasing issue which were written in the Jakarta
Post, published in April 2012. The problems which will be investigated are: what are
the elements within clauses in the Jakarta Post head line news on the fuel prices
raising issue in April 2012?, and how are people and things classified, described and
identified within the elements in the Jakarta Post head line news on the fuel prices
raising issue in April 2012?
The design of this research will be text analysis by using Systemic Functional
Linguistics (SFL) theory. In other words, the framework of this research will be in

the area of Systemic Functional Linguistics theory. The data sources of this research
will be ‘the Jakarta Post’ articles, especially the head line news on the fuel prices
raising issue, written during April 2012. The data of this research will be the
ideational meanings which were realized through texts of the head line news on the
fuel prices raising issue, written in ‘the Jakarta Post’ during April 2012. The
processes in each text will be analyzed to find out the description and the relationship
between participants who are involved in the process.
The result of the research will be its contribution on the development of the
theory on text analysis, especially on how to analyze real texts which are written with
the purpose of responding the recent issue in the real social life.
Based on the research result above, it is suggested to English lecturer to apply
Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) to describe the variety of language which
occurs in any context of situation. The students who study in English Education
Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty should learn how the
language uses through Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL). So they cannot
misunderstand the experiential meaning or equally important meaning that one is
making. So they can understand easy what the one’s experience.

ABSTRAKSI
Hidayat, Dedy Syarif. 2012. "Analisis Element dalamKlausa di Berita Utama Harian
“the Jakarta Post”Edisi April 2012 dalam Menyoal Isu Kenaikan Harga
BBM". Skripsi Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris; Fakultas Keguruan
dan Ilmu Pendidikan; Universitas Muria Kudus. Dosen Pembimbing: (1)
Agung Dwi Nurcahyo, SS, M.Pd. (2) Dr. H. A. Hilal Madjdi, M.Pd.
interpersonal, and tekstual.
“the Jakarta Post”, yang terbit selama bulan April 2012.

Linguistik Sistematik Fungsional. Sehinnga mereka tidak salah paham mengenai
makna nyata ataupun makna lain yang dihasilkan seseorang. Dengan harapan mereka
mudah memahami keinginan seseorang.
