ABSTRAK
Kertas Karya ini berjudul “The Character of Detective Story in The Cuckoo’s
Calling by Robert Galbraith”. Penulis tertarik membahas tentang unsur-unsur
yang membuktikan kalau novel ini adalah benar-benar cerita detektif. Karya tulis
ini membuktikan bahwa The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith adalah benarbenar cerita detektif. Ada enam unsur dalam novel detective, yaitu solusi misteri,
pemecahan masalah misteri, polisi yang tidak berguna, tersangka yang diduga
bersalah tetapi tidak bersalah, teman detective, dan tekanan yang dialami sang
detective dibalik ide-ide cemerlangnya. Dalam penulisan kertas karya ini, penulis
menggunakan metode pengamatan secara detail dan pendekatan secara intrinsik.
Semua data yang ada dikumpulkan, dianalisis dan disimpulkan untuk mendukung
kertas karya ini. Penulis berharap para pembaca dapat mengerti unsur-unsur
dalam novel detektif.

ABSTRACT
This paper entiled “The Character of Detective Story in The Cuckoo’s Calling by
Robert Galbraith”. The writer was interested to discuss about the elements which
declared that this novel is really detective story. There are six elements in
detective novel, such as solution of mystery, solving mystery, incompetent or
ineffectual police, a susfect who appears guilty at first but is later proved innocent,
detective’s friend or confidant, and often the narrator whose slowness in
interpreting clues emphasizes by contrast the detective’s brilliance. This paper
declare that The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith is really detective story.
Within this work paper, the writer uses descriptive research and intrinsic
approach. All data is collected, analyzed, concluded to support this work paper.
The writer hopes the readers can understand with elements of the novel, especially
detective novel.
