Abstract
This research is intended to investigate the students’ perceptions of the use of
animations as teaching aid in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom in

SD Negeri Sudirman, a public elementary school in Ambarawa, Central Java,
Indonesia. The animations used in this research is animations that combine texts,
graphics, motions, and sounds (audio-visual) such as movie clips, videos, etc. This
study involves seventy—four (41 females and 33 males) participants from two
EFL classrooms of elementary school level. In obtaining the data, a questionnaire
is developed. The participants were asked some questions about their perception
of the used of animations after they were taught through animations for several
times in their English lessons. The result shows that animations can be used as the
teaching aid in EFL classroom in this small city school and can be accepted by the
students. The result also reveals that students believed that animations are helpful
and interesting for them in learning English. This suggests elementary English
teachers to decide whether or not animations can be used as teaching aid in their
own teaching situation.
