Abstract
Ba ckg rou nd :Diur et ics are m edicine t hat increase t he am ount of urine volum e.
Propolis has 150 com pounds t hat have biological act ivit ies, one of t he is flavonoid.
Flavonoid known t o has diuret ic effect .
M e t ho ds:The r esearch is a laborat ory experim ent al analyt ic st udy using
random ized cont rolled t r ial done at Labor at ory of Set ia Budi Universit y Surakart a in
June 2012. The research subj ect is a num ber of 35 m ale w hit e rat s of Wist ar st r ain.
They were divided int o five t reat m ent groups, each group consist s of seven rat s.
Sim ple random sam pling is used for sam pling t echnique. Before t he t reat m ent ,
rat s were adapt ed for 7 days and fast ed for 48 hours but st ill provided wit h dr inking
wat er. Propolis ext ract was given or ally. Group I w as given aquadest 2.5 m l as
negat ive cont r ol, group I I was given hydrochlorot hiazide 0.3 m g/ 2.5 m l as posit ive
cont rol, group I I I was given propolis ext ract at dose 30 m g/ 2.5 m l as dose I , group
I V was given propolis ext ract at dose 60 m g/ 2.5 m l as dose I I , and group V w as
given propolis ext ract at dose 120 m g/ 2.5 m l as dose I I I . Rat s urine volum e was
m easured every 6 hours for 24 hours.

t her e is significant difference in t ot al rat s urine volum e bet w een group I , I I , I I I , I V,
and V. The Post - Hoc t est result bet ween gr oup I com pared wit h t he ot her s group
was significant difference.Group I I has t he largest urine volum e from all groups.
Group I I I has t he largest urine volum e am ong t he groups t hat given propolis
ext ract . Gr oup I V has larger urine volum e t han group V and group V has t he least
urin volum e am ong t he groups t hat given propolis ext ract .
