Abstract

This research is intended to apprehend a representation of school adjustment for
boarding school students Makedonia Christian Junior High School in Ngabang,
West Borneo. The data is collected using qualitative method that contains
observation and interview. The interview is done based on Student Adaptation to
College

Questionnaire (SACQ) aspects which is proposed by Baker and Siryk

(1989). The respondents are three Makedonia Christian Junior High School students
in Ngabang, West Borneo. It turned out that the tough competition between the
students and their classmates helped to promote hard work and perseverance so that
they can perform better academically. Moreover, even though it took much time,
Participant 1 and 2 were able to adjust but participant 3 had a problem with the
adjustment because she felt as if her friends rejected, alienated, and were keeping
distance from her. Another point that struck me as interesting is the idea that the

problems they were facing are actually the same, their personal things are often
borrowed by their friends without their permission and lost. Since the participants
couldn’t recall who borrowed what, they had to let their things go. On the other
hand, all of the participants agreed that the school helped them to develop their
aptitudes and interests with the adequate facilities that are provided. Consequently,
all of the participants enjoy doing the activities held at the school. In addition, their
parents showed great support in different ways that inspire them to take charge of
their own academic journey.
