ABSTRACT
The purposes of this research are to describe the types and references of the
deitic words used in the Jakarta Post editorial. The central topics of pragmatics,
this study is limited on applying deixis on the Jakarta Post for July 2012 editorial.
Method of data collection that is used by researcher is documentation
method. The writer does the following procedures, collecting data, reading and
observing the data, finding the data, putting sign and making checklist on it,
taking the data and presenting them in data display and drawing and finding
conclusions. The researcher describes the types of deixis based on the Levinson’s
theory and describes the reference of deixis based on Hallyday and Hasan’s
theory.
There are five the types of the deitic words. (1) Personal diexis (i) the first
person I refers to a speaker inclusion (+S) and speaker exclusion (-S). we refers to
an including the speaker but excluding the addressee (s) (+S,- A) (Expressive use),
include both speaker or writer and addressee(+S,+A) (Integrative use) and an
including the speaker, listeners and some assuming addressee (+S,(assuming) +
A) (assuming use). (ii)The second person, You refers to addressee inclusion (+A)
and exclusion (-A).(iii) The third person, speaker and addressee exclusion (-S,-A).
He or she refers to male or female person, unknown gender and a male or female
person’s occupation. They refers to an indefinite person, group of people or things
and non persons. (2)Temporal deixis can be distinguished to base on (i) Time
relation (pre, present, post events) (ii) Time period (calendrical and non caldrical)
(iii) The moment of utterance (coding and receiving time). (3) Spatial deixis uses
of proximal (here) and distal expressions (there). (4) Discourse dexis uses as this
or that refers to large amount of the discourse that are located in the discourse
itself. (5) Social deixis, the relational variety which there are four axes as speaker
and referent e.g. referent honorifics, speaker and addressee, addressee honorifics,
speaker and bystander
There are two references of the deitic words are used. The first is referential
devices that can create cohesion (anaphoric, cataphoric, and exophoric). The
second is type of references (reference personal, demonstrative and comparative)

ABSTRAKSI
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan jenis dan referensi
dari kata-kata yang digunakan dalam deitic tajuk rencana pada Jakarta post.
Kajian utama pragmatik, penelitian ini dibatasi pada penerapan deixis dari tajuk
rencana Jakarta Post selama bulan Juli 2012
Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah metode
dokumentasi. Penulis melakukan prosedur berikut, pengumpulan data, membaca
dan mengamati data, mencari data, menempatkan tanda dan membuat checklist,
mengambil data dan menyajikannya dalam tampilan data dan menarik dan
menemukan kesimpulan. Peneliti menjelaskan jenis deixis berdasarkan teori
Levinson dan menjelaskan referensi deixis berdasarkan Hallyday dan teori Hasan.
Ada lima jenis kata-kata deitic. (1) diexis Personal (i) orang pertama I
mengacu pada inklusi speaker (+ S) dan pengecualian pembicara (-S). We
mengacu pada termasuk pembicara tetapi tidak termasuk penerima (s) (+ S, - A)
(penggunaan Ekspresif), mencakup pembicara atau penulis dan penerima (+ S, A
+) (penggunaan Integrative) dan termasuk pembicara, pendengar dan beberapa
asumsi penerima (+ S, (asumsi) + A) (dengan asumsi penggunaan). (Ii) Orang
kedua, You mengacu pada penerima inklusi (+ A) dan eksklusi (-A). (Iii) orang
ketiga, speaker dan pengecualian penerima (S-,-A). He atau she merujuk pada
orang laki-laki atau perempuan, diketahui jenis kelamin dan pekerjaan pria atau
wanita. They mengacu pada orang yang terbatas, sekelompok orang atau benda
dan bukan orang. (2) deixis Temporal dapat dibedakan berdasar pada (i)
hubungan Waktu (pra, saat, pasca peristiwa) (ii) Periode waktu (calender dan non
caldrical) (iii) Momen ucapan (coding dan menerima waktu). (3) Tata Ruang
deixis menggunakan proksimal (di sini) dan distal (ada). (4) Wacana dexis
menggunakan sebagai ini atau itu mengacu pada sejumlah besar wacana yang
terletak dalam wacana itu sendiri. (5) Sosial deixis, berbagai relasional yang ada
empat focus sebagai pembicara dan referesi misalnya Penghormatan rujukan,
pembicara dan penerima, menghormati penerima, pembicara dan penonton
Ada dua referensi dari kata deitic digunakan. Yang pertama adalah perangkat
referensial yang dapat menciptakan kohesi (anaphoric, cataphoric, dan exophoric).
Yang kedua adalah tipe referensi (referensi pribadi, demonstratif dan
Perbandingan)
