Key Words: Speaking Ability, Expressing Feeling, and Simulation
Speaking English is an important aspect for senior high school students.
But for most of senior high school feel difficult to speak English because of many
factors such as lack of vocabularies, lack of practice, lack of pronunciation, and so
on. One of materials which are taught in the eleventh grade students is expressing
feeling. Expressing feeling is expressions which express feeling, it can be feeling
love, sad, anger, and embarrassment.
The objective of this research is to find out whether the uses of simulation
significantly influence the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of MA
NU Miftahul Falah Dawe-Kudus in academic year 2013/2014.
This is a quantitative experimental research with a single group design

(one group pre-test + post-test). This research took place at MA NU Miftahul
Falah Dawe-Kudus. The population was the eleventh grade students of MA NU
Miftahul Falah Dawe-Kudus. The writer took one class as the sample that is XI-D
class which consists of 28 students. In this research the writer used expressing
feeling to measure the students‟ speaking ability and gave oral test for pretest and
posttest for collecting the data to be analyzed.
Based on the analyzing data, it was found that the result of the pre-test
showed that the mean is 50.71 and the standard deviation is 19.57 then the result
of post-test showed that the mean is 61.43 and the standard deviation is 62.14.
And by doing hypothesis testing it was found that the t-test (t0) is 11.64
meanwhile the t-table with the level of significance 0,05, the number of degree of
freedom (df) 27, the t-table is 2.052. It means that t-observation is higher than ttable (t0= 11.64 > tt= 2.052) so, it can be concluded that the result of the students‟
speaking ability in expressing feeling after and before being taught by using
simulation is statistically significant influence.
Based on the result above it can be said that there is a significant influence
between the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of MA NU Miftahul
Falah Kudus before and after being taught by using Simulation technique in the
academic year 2013/2014. It means that the use of simulation can help the
students practice their speaking skill especially in expressing feeling. And then the
writer hopes this research can be used by the teacher as one way to enrich the

reference about improving the students‟ speaking skill and also as a consideration
for the teacher to choose simulation as an alternative to help and make the
students speak English.

Berbicara bahasa Inggris merupakan aspek penting bagi siswa SMA.
Namun bagi sebagian besar siswa SMA merasa sulit untuk berbicara bahasa
Inggris karena banyak faktor seperti kurangnya kosa kata, kurangnya praktek,
kurangnya pengucapan, dan sebagainya. Salah satu materi yang diajarkan pada
siswa kelas XI yaitu mengekspresikan perasaan. Mengekspresikan perasaan
adalah ekspresi yang mengungkapkan perasaan, seperti mengungkapkan perasaan
cinta, sedih, marah, dan malu.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan
simulasi dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas XI MA NU
Miftahul Falah Dawe Kudus-pada tahun akademik 2013/2014 secara signifikan.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental kuantitatif dengan
desain kelompok tunggal (satu kelompok pre-test + post-test). Penelitian ini
berlangsung di MA NU Miftahul Falah Dawe Kudus. Populasi dari penelitian ini
adalah siswa kelas XI MA NU Miftahul Falah Dawe Kudus. Dalam penelitian ini
penulis mengambil satu kelas sebagai sampel yaitu kelas XI-D yang terdiri dari 28
siswa. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan menggunakan materi
mengekspresikan perasaan untuk mengukur kemampuan berbicara siswa dan
memberikan tes lisan untuk pretest dan posttest sebagai data yang akan dianalisis.
Berdasarkan analisis data, ditemukan bahwa hasil pre-test menunjukkan
bahwa rata-rata nilai siswa adalah 50.71 dan standar deviasi 19.57 sedangkan hasil
post-test menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai siswa adalah 61.43 dan standar
deviasi 62,14. Dan dengan melakukan pengujian hipotesis ditemukan bahwa t-test
(t0) adalah 11.64 sedangkan t-tabel dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,05, jumlah
derajat kebebasan (df) 27, t-tabel adalah 2,052. Ini berarti bahwa t-observasi lebih
tinggi dari t-tabel (t0 = 11.64> tt = 2,052) sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil
kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara bahasa inggris dalam mengekspresikan
perasaan setelah dan sebelum diajar dengan menggunakan simulasi berpengaruh

secara statistik signifikan.
Berdasarkan hasil di atas bisa dikatakan bahwa ada pengaruh yang
signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris siswa kelas XI MA NU
Miftahul Falah Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014 pada saat sebelum dan sesudah
diajar mengggunakan teknik simulasi. Ini berarti bahwa kegunaan teknik simulasi
dapat membantu siswa untuk praktek berbicara bahasa Inggris terutama dalam
mengungkapkan perasaan. Dan kemudian penulis berharap penelitian ini dapat
digunakan oleh guru bahasa inggris sebagai salah satu cara untuk memperkaya
referensi tentang meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa inggris siswa dan

juga sebagai pertimbangan bagi guru untuk memilih simulasi sebagai alternatif
untuk membantu dan membuat siswa berbicara bahasa Inggris.
