CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter discusses of the finding and discussion. The analysis of the collected data was carried out to answer the research problem: To find what techniques are mostly used by the teachers ‟ in teaching speaking at class VIII of junior high school 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman and to find students response of the techniques that used by the teachers in teaching Speaking.
A. Research Finding
In collecting the data researcher used four instruments, are field note, interview, observation sheet and document. This subtitle represents the description of the data and data analysis related to:
1. How Do The English Teacher Teaches Speaking Skill at Class VIII of Junior High School 1 Padang Pariaman.
To know the teaching and learning process of English especially “Speaking” beside the observation the researcher also done the interview with the
headmaster of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman.
a. The Objective of English Teaching Learning As global Junior High School, the Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman introduces the English as international language, the teacher teach by English and sometime by Bahasa when the student difficult to understand about material. Especially in class VIII, the teacher mostly used the English when teaches Speaking material. It‟s to motivate the a. 1) The develop communication competence orally during activities in school context.
2) To have awareness about the essence and importance of English to enhance competing competence in the global society. To reach the goals above, Junior High School 1 Sintuk toboh Gadang Pariaman implement curriculum of KTSP for class VIII and K13 for class VII. In teaching Speaking, the teacher are used the KTSP curriculum especially at class VIII. The Speaking taught once in a week, sometime the teacher join speaking with the another skill such as reading and listening.
b. The Teaching Material Teaching materials of English speaking skill are organized according to the syllabus. The teacher uses several textbooks to support English language teaching. Sometime the teacher only focused on the Students sheet work (LKS). In class VIII especially, the teacher used some book as resource cause in this stage the teacher still used KTSP curriculum. Student has many time to finish what exercises on the book.
2. What Does Teacher’s Teaching Technique Mostly Used By The Teacher In Teaching Speaking Skill at Class VIII of Junior High School Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman?
There many technique are can use by the teacher in teaching Speaking in classroom, like; Discussion, Storytelling, Brainstorming, reporting, Picture describing, Interview, Information Gap, Simulation, Story Completing, and Role Play, Kayi (2006:2-5). From those techniques there several techniques are mostly used by the teacher in teaching and learning Speaking process at class
VIII. Here, the researcher used the interview and observation class method to know what technique is teacher mostly used in teaching speaking. In clearly, researcher show the observation sheet had analyzed billow:

From the table above be seen what are the techniques are dominant used by the teachers were teaching speaking at class VIII are discussion, storytelling, and describing, it also support with the teachers‟ answers when I done the interview with him, said that the technique mostly used in teaching speaking are storytelling, brainstorming, dialog/discussion, describing things and mapping. See (Appendix). But sometimes teacher technique does not suitable with the procedures with each other technique until the researcher felt difficult to determine what technique had teacher performance at that classroom. Sometime student only hear and silent and the teacher focus on his explanation.
The teacher has time to explain the material and did not pay attention to student who seat in corner, until the student felt bore and the student who active and good motivate to hear only student who seat in front of or near with the teacher. Teaching speaking in class VIII sometimes has good atmosphere, it based on teacher technique in teaching. The teacher had ever used the other technique exactly, such as story completing, simulation and so on, but in researcher observation the technique that teacher used are only what researcher found as had mention above.
The researcher was done the interview with many students of class VIII to know what they are response to teacher technique or performance in teaching speaking in classroom. In teaching speaking, students are like speaking subject but still less in vocabulary until difficult to speak and hard to pronoun. It researcher known from interview with several student, see (Appendix). Many of students mastered in story telling by English, it show that the student like to speak and can speak orally by English. Beside that this school ever win in competence in storytelling section, researcher knew it when done interview with the headmaster of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman at Saturday July / 29 / 2017.
5. Discussion
a. How Do The English Teacher Teaches Speaking Skill At Class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman.
In other to reach the goals of teaching speaking in Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman especially at class VIII, the teacher have concert with the objective, material, textbook of instruction. Speaking in class VIII classroom run actively when the student study the English at that time, sometimes teacher only used the English at the first time of teaching process, in the middle of main activity the teacher used bahasa and sometimes minangkabau language to explain thing to student, cause with bahasa sometime student more understood.
Student still felt shy when the teacher asked him to speak by English in front of the class. Sometime teacher only asked the student one by one to conduct the conversation with him, caused student still felt shy when teacher ask him to speak by English orally with himself.
b. What Does Teacher’s Teaching Technique Mostly Used By The Teacher In Teaching Speaking Skill at Junior High School of Class
VIII Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman?
Techniques is way of doing something(Oxford, 2003). It means that a teacher uses a way in teaching speaking. Best techniques which are used by best teachers can improve the student‟s skill in speaking. But the technique used will be nothing if the teacher does not applying it in learning process.
Furhermore, the teacher need a technique to make learning process runs smothly. In learning process, the teacher usualy specific procedure in carriying
a teaching activities There many techniques to promote speaking in classroom, the techniques to teach speaking are used in classroom of class VIII mostly are storytelling, brainstorming, dialog, describing thing and mapping. See (Appendix) its show that the teacher adjusted the material based on student ability to understand the learning subject. But I no sure about teacher answer when I asked him in interview cause when I observed the classroom and the researcher pay attention about what teacher done in the class when teaching, sometimes the teacher only used speech technique, the teacher most active then the students. Most of their technique focused on teacher. Teacher explained about the material and gives some examples and in finish the teacher gives the student the question.
In teaching speaking, student asked to write conversation in the book with their chair mate and performed in front of the class. The students still felt difficult to speak by English orally.
The students was enjoyed the learning process in classroom, good enthusiasm, and good motivated to learn with the teacher. The students understood what they are learning about. See (Appendix). Here, the researcher only used the interview to know students response about teacher technique in teaching speaking.
CHAPTER V
CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
A. Conclusion
In this chapter, the researcher is going to convey the conclusion from the previous chapters which have been described. This research described about the teachers techniques in teaching speaking skill at class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman and conducted to find out the teaching techniques are mostly used by teachers in teaching speaking skill especially at class VIII. This research also to find out students response about techniques are used by their teachers in teaching speaking. The techniques in teaching speaking are Discussion, Role Play, Simulation, Information Gap, Brainstroming, Story Telling, Story Complention, Interview Reporting, Picture Narating, Picture Describing.
In Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman, teacher teach English based on scientific approach curriculum (K.13) for class VII, and for class VIII and class IX still used KTSP. To increase students‟ abilities base component of English such as writing, reading, speaking and listening. Listening still no good process caused the school has less facility. The purpose teaching English appropriate with what written in scientific approach curriculum and KTSP (UU No. 20/2013). See (appendix).
Teaching Speaking at Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Pariaman was done twice in a week. Especially in class VIII, there two teachers teaches in. Mr. Zulfitri, S.Pd and Mrs. Misnawaty, Sy. Both of teachers teach speaking by different technique although sometime they have same technique in learning caused they teach in same grade.
In teaching speaking, especially at class VIII the teacher mostly used the technique appropriate with student environment because the student hope to know how to retell what they have saw and known. In other that, there many techniques are mostly used by the teacher when they are teaching such as storytelling, describing thing, dialog, and discussion.
Students‟ response was actively, the students were happy and good motivation at classroom. Based on the finding of this research, it can be explained as follows:
1) Teaching English in Junior High School 1 Sintuk toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman same with another school, teach in classroom and to reach aim of education that written in KTSP curriculum.
2) The techniques in teaching speaking skill at the class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang Pariaman are mostly used by teachers are Storytelling, Brainstroming, Describing and discussion.
3) Students response of techniques in teaching speaking at class VIII of Junior High School 1 Sintuk Toboh Gadang Padang was response well by the many students and they felt understand about teacher explanation.
B. Suggestion
As a student who is studying English, still need the teacher‟s individual attention as possible, they need to be guided to learn individually. So, the teacher should give it as good as possible. Example, the teacher needs to pay attention on
each student‟s speaking competence and give them feedback to the students‟ work.
In speaking, sometimes the student needs good atmosphere, and the teacher should see it and sometimes bring the student to zoo and meet tourism and students can speak with him as practicing.
The researcher wishes to other teachers and candidates of teacher who want to use technique in teaching speaking to have deeper knowledge to achieve the goal of teaching and learning process especially in teaching speaking.
The researcher wishes to the goverment and educational institution to hold training to English teacher to improve their knowlegde in teaching especially in teaching speaking.
Finally, the writer realizes that this thesis is far from being perfect, but the writer hopes this will be beneficial for the readers and researchers of the same discourse. I suggested to the next researcher to do other related aspect in speaking skill.
