4.1.6 Jealous

Queen Attolia was jealous of what Eddis had in her life. She thought that she never did anything amazing for her, while Queen Eddis did. This can be seen from the following incidents: Queen Attolia hates Queen Eddis because Queen Eddis has had everything she needs. Queen Attolia hates Queen Eddis when she does not take Queen Attolia’s advice at her coronation. Queen Attolia hates Queen Eddis especially because she has the thief, Eugenides. It is proved when Queen Eddis has a conversation with Eugenides. They want to conspire with Queen Attolia, but Queen Eddis thinks that it will not happen because Queen Attolia hates her. Queen Attolia hates her because she did not take Queen Attolia’s advice when she got her coronation. She also knew that Queen Attolia was very jeaolus of her because Queen Attolia did not have people to be believed, even Queen Attolia was jealous of her because Queen Eddis had her lovely thief, Eugenides. “I can’t. Sounis is too strong. Eddis and Attolia together might beat him, but Attolia won’t have to do with Eddis. She hates me too much, and she’s too much concerned trying to keep a grip on her country.” “She took me aside and gave me a lot of advice on how to hold on to the throne” “She’s hated me for not taking her advice and for having a country I didn’t need to. And she’s hated me because I have you, Eugenides, to keep Sounis and his corruption out of my court. p. 89 The incident above proves that Queen Attolia is jealous of Queen Eddis because Queen Eddis has Eugenides. It is analyzed throuh Murphy’s methods of characterization 1972. In this case, it is derived from the character as seen by the other characters pp.162-164. Queen Attolia is always jealous of Queen Eddis because she has the thief, Eugenides. Queen Eddis has been allowed to handle and direct her army herself at war. She has travelled everywhere she wants, but Queen Attolia just sits in her palace. Queen Eddis has loyal people around her, and they are good in serving her. She can fight her own battles if she chooses. Queen Attolia also says to herself that she has always envied Queen Eddis. It begins since Queen Eddis learns to ride a pony, uses a sword with her male cousins, hunts at the summer retreat. Meanwhile, Queen Attolia is dressing in velvets that stifled her even in the winter, learning to ape the costume, learning to salute just so when entering the main temple. Queen Attolia is only sitting when Queen Eddis hunts in the winter. “I always envied Eddis,” she said to herself as she stood up to pace. It was true. Eddis and she had both been the younger sisters of crown princes, but always it seemed to Attolia that Eddis was running wild in the mountains while she was carefully kept and groomed in the king’s palace of Attolia. pp. 290 - 291 The incident above proves that Queen Attolia is jealous of Queen Eddis because Queen Eddis can do wild things, even in a war, while Queen Attolia is always sitting on her throne. It is analyzed through Murphy’s methods of characterization 1972. In this case, it is derived from the direct comment of the author pp.170-171.
