of error in error analysis theory. From some theories above the writer uses Brown‟s theory in dividing cause of errors made by the students. There are four
causes; interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, and context of learning. Based on the research findings of the research, the data is valid because
there is mutual meaning between data interpretation of interview and theories. It can be proved that the respondents make errors in using gerund and infinitive
because of Interlingual Transfer.

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
A. Research Finding
1. Data Description
The writer conducted a written test to collect data. The test consisted of 20 questions in one section; the students have to complete the sentences with the
correct form, gerund or infinitive. In the test given by the writer, the students‟
should pay attention to each number; there are some functions of gerund and infinitive, so that the students should know which verb functioning as gerund and
which verb functioning as to infinitive. The writer then identified the students‟
errors by using procedures of error analysis, and the result will be presented in the table. Analyzing the interview result was done after identifying the most frequent
error made by students in using gerund and to infinitive. Here are the descriptions of students‟ test and interview:

Based on the table above, it could be seen that the number of errors made by the students in using gerund and to infinitive was 178 errors. After calculating
the number of errors, then the writer would like to describe in details about types of errors committed by the students in using gerund and to infinitive. The
classification of types of errors will be shown in the following table:
