While in the back, Princess Merida who is still sleeping quietly in her bed, opens her eyes and puts the pillow on her head to block the sunshine. It seems like she wants to continue her sleep. Picture 31 Picture 32 In picture 31 shows Princess Merida back from forest and tells her mom that she just climbs the cliff and drinks the water from the top of it, her mom seems does not pay attention because according to her a princess should not doing that. Also when Princess Merida places her bow in the dining table, Queen Elinor complains that she should not put the weapons on the table. Furthermore, according to her, a princess should not have weapons. Even when Queen Elinor already change into a bear and sets breakfast for them, Princess Merida still put her bow in the dining table which makes Queen Elinor complains about that. At first, Princess Merida does not understand what her mom talking about because she speaks bear. Then Queen Elinor gives her gesture to move the bow from the table, as seen in the picture 32. 51 Picture 33 Elinor : Honestly, Merida I dont know why youre acting this way. This year each clan will present a suitor to compete in the games for your hand. Merida : Im the only princess that just does what shes told Elinor : A princess does not raise her voice. Merida, this is what youve been preparing for your whole life. Merida : No What youve been preparing me for my whole life [Merida gets up in anger and starts to walk off] Merida : I wont go through with it You cant make me Elinor : Merida

The dialogue above shows Princess Merida raises her voice when her mom tells her about the betrothal for the first time. It shows on the exclamation mark at the end of every sentence she says to her mom in the dialogue. Princess Merida does it because she does not want being engaged. Furthermore, the previous picture also shows Princess Merida’s facial expression which indicate that she is angry because all this time she is just doing what her mom told her when her mom teaches her how to be a perfect princess and schooling her about the knowledge of their kingdom. Deep inside her, she does not want doing that. From all the description above, the writer concludes that Princess Merida is an inattentive princess seen from the way she eats, sits, and walks. Furthermore, 52 her characteristic is not included as one. She is manlier princess who has her own dreams and does not care with the importance of her kingdom as being a good princess. She would rather catch her dreams to be free and doing archery in her life.

3. Princess Merida as an Unconventional Princess

If we watch several Disney princess movie classic, we will amaze by the appearance of the princess because they have a pretty face and also they are really feminine. While Princess Merida depicted as a masculine princess who likes to ride a horse and does archery. From her appearances, there are distinct differences between Princess Merida and other Disney princesses. First is from Princess Merida’s hair. She has a kinky and unruly hair which looks like not well taken care of, as the picture below. We can see that the three princess’s hair is neater and well managed beside Princess Merida’s hair looks 53 untidy. Whereas Princess Merida is a girl, she supposes to taking care of her appearance especially her hair which is curly. The second is from Princess Merid a’s dress. Princess Merida wears a dark g reen color which is not attracting people’s eyes especially man. For example is when she enters the Great Hall, all people there mostly men seems not stunned with Princess Merida arrival, as seen in the next picture.
