B. Suggestions

This part is divided into two sections. The first section concerns with the suggestions for future researchers. And the second section discusses the suggestion for the English Teaching Learning process using literary texts. Two skills in learning English that are speaking and reading are presented as the implementation for the teaching and learning activities.

1. Suggestion For the Future Researchers

Maya Angelou’s novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a very interesting novel. Angelou’s novel presents situations that can appear and normally happened in the world. From this novel I also learn how we must appreciate people without look at where they from and what race they are. We can also find moral teaching and value in it. The problems and incidents that describe in the novel are very interesting. It can be analyzed by the future researchers without lack of ideas. My analysis is just limited to the analysis of Marguerite’s perception of life as a black girl. Future researchers may explore about Bailey’s perception of black people’s life that portrayed in the novel. The future researchers can also discuss about the symbols that appear in the novel. And also the future researchers can analyze the title of the novel. The future researcher also can analyze the other characters that exist in the novel and the motivation of Marguerite’s muteness.

2. Suggestion for Teaching and Learning Activities

Most people regard novel as one of the means to pass their leisure time. They can have an enjoyment as well as its beauty when reading it. Actually reading a novel does not only give us an enjoyment, but it also gives us moral teaching as well as a source for teaching learning activities. Novel as a literary text provides some valuable sources for improving and developing students’ English mastery. When the students learn English literature, they also learn the culture of people whose language they are studying. Through English literature the students can stimulate the ability in speaking and writing in English. As we know, the language used in the literary text sometimes differs from any other texts. It is more difficult to be understood and uncommon to be used in a daily conversation. Through English literature, students will be more aware and sensitive to some of the features of English. Literature is means to educate the whole person because the theme of the literary text is not far from human relationship. Therefore, literature is an important media in teaching language because he teacher will be helped providing rich sources to the goal achievement in teaching language. Trough literature students can learn not only the language skills but also learn of aspects of life. The novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings can be used as a teaching material in English teaching learning process. It can draw students’ attention to read literary works. In this part, I choose the implementation of literary work in teaching Speaking IV.
