CHAPTER III RESEACH METHOD

In conducting this research, it is important for a researcher to determine the research method that researcher would like to use. This chapter will discuss the research method used in this research including research design, unit of analysis, and source of data, collection and technique of data analysis.

3.1 Research Design

In conducting this research, it is important for the researcher to determine the research method that researcher would like to use. This study is descriptive and qualitative research. The descriptive research is research conducted to describe systematically the fact and the characteristic of given population or area of interest, factually, and accurately. It describes the thematic progression and coherence of the The qualitative research is a procedure of research, in which the collected data will not be created by statistic procedure. In this research, the collected data are often called ‗soft data‘. They usually reach in people description that are neither easily done by statistic procedure. So this research is not only limited to collecting and arranging the data orderly, but also analyzing and interpreting the meaning of the data.

3.2 Source of Data

The source of the data of this researrch was taken from The Jakarta Post magazine 2012 edition. The data were the letters made by the readers of the Jakarta Post in the part of ―YouthSpeak‖ published on February Wednesday 2nd 2012 volume 6.

3.3 Unit of analysis

Unit of analysis in this research is every clause in the article entitled ―Falling in Love with Indonesian‘s Culture‖ taken from the letter in ―YouthSpeak‖ in The Jakarta Post magazine 2012 edition , February Wednesday, 2nd volume 6.

3.4 Techniques of Data Collection

The data of this study were obtained by doing the following steps: 1. Searching the data by collecting the letter in ―YouthSpeak‖ in The Jakarta Post magazine 2012 edition. 2. Choosing the letter entitled ―Falling in Love with Indonesian‘s Culture‖ which are written in English. 3. Reading the letter about ―Falling in Love with Indonesian‘s Culture‖. By reading the letter about ―Falling in Love with Indonesian‘s Culture‖, the researcher can analyze the data before segmenting the sentences into clauses.
