3.5 Data Gathering Techniques

In order to gather the data needed in this research, the researcher distributed the questionnaire and interviewed the participants. The researcher distributed the questionnaire to the participants and followed by interviewing some participants. Distributing the questionnaire was the first step conducted in order to gather the data. The researcher distributed the questionnaire in order to gain the data needed to answer the research problems. The researcher distributed the questionnaire to the eleventh grade of social science students of SMAN 11 Yogyakarta. In distributing the questionnaire, the researcher informed the participants the purpose of doing the research and asked them to read the instruction before answering the questionnaire. Therefore, the participants knew the purpose of doing this research and also were responsible for their answers. After gathering and analyzing the data from the questionnaire, the researcher selected six participants to be interviewed. The researcher interviewed six social science students in this research. The interviewees were selected based on their questionnaire results. The researcher selected two interviewees from each class who got high and low scores in their questionnaire results. The interviews were conducted to gain more specific data and information that were not obtained from the questionnaire. The purpose of doing the interviews was explained to the interviewees before the interviewing process.
